Fallout 76

So a quick timeline:

- Buggy release and asset flip
- Nylon "Canvas" Bags
- 50% discount one week later
- No refunds
- Found out the nuke codes remain the same for the entire week
- Pisspoor response to the bag issue
- Leaking the info of everyone trying to seek recompense for the "canvas" bag to the entire internet due to a ticket system flaw.
- Widescreen patch turns out to be a cheap hack
- Hilariously expensive christmas "Deals"
- Nuka Dark Rum fiasco
- Nuka Dark Rum fiasco response fiasco

Then to add the mass ban for people self-editing their config files of the game for resolution and graphics settings.

I don't think the essay write up is a thing, it is just a clever way for the devs/publishers to ask for an offender to appeal.

and then this "if true"

I'd say they couldn't dig themselves into a deeper hole if you gave them a deep earth auger but yeah...between Bethesda and Blizzard it seems to be a competition to see who can kill themselves quicker.

Also don't forget two CFOs leaving for other companies. Might not mean much, though.

I also read rumours that they might Bethesda might 'rush out' the next Elder Scrolls series, since Fallout 76 has not met financial expectations (predicted sales volume and possibly predicted in game purchases).

But but... Sean Murray, sorry I meant Todd Howard, publicly stated that people numbering in their millions are playing the game.

What did they expect from releasing 76 like it was? Also they didn't read the market for Fallout at all.

Because certain countries are so huge, something that is in the millions doesn't mean it's a lot.

What has country sizes to do with your active player base?
Just saying, just because something is in the millions doesn't mean it's a success, there are things that flopped in the US even though there were 4 million people using it.
Though knowing Todd it's probably thousands or it was a million in the first week and it's been quickly dropping since.

I doubt that they had more than 1 million active players. GTA V sold more than 85 million copies and their all-time peak is around 360k, they probably average now around 100k per 24h, and these stats include single player and multiplayer.

Then you go have a look at PUBG, they peaked 1.1m and that is a record, 360k per 24h. I doubt that Fallout 76, taking the numbers and playtime that Fallout 3/NV/4 achieved, would have come close to Steam’s top 25.

We don't know Bethesda's server stats since they keep it closed, but they did state,

https://fallout.bethesda.net/articl.../fallout-76-inside-the-vault-november-27-2018

Millions of you are playing the game, and playing it a lot.

and Todd backed that up. That is November 27th and was released on November 14th. 13 Days, no way. The servers were barely stable to maintain the uptime and they had the massive game resource overhaul update.

I honestly don't believe that they would have beaten the early successes that GTA V Online achieved, a 4-year-old game which is still bringing the money home.

Maybe 'sales volume' was the wrong word to use. Maybe just sales, as in how much profit was made for the first two months , taking into account how the game has been discounted shortly after release.

Also, even if you have now 'millions' of people playing fallout 76 (after the enticing price drop) doesn't mean the predicted % are purchasing from the in game store.

I just believe that Starfield is more of a priority for Bethesda than Fallout 76.
Probably, 76 was rushed out cause it's been 3 years since we've released something Fallouty and there are less people buying another copy of Skyrim, we need relevance while we make Starfield.
Instead of allowing studios like Obsidian to release a decent twist on Fallout 4 or something they go and shoot themselves in the foot.

I think they wanted to release their game before Obsidian got a chance to release theirs.
They knew once Obsidian's The Outer Worlds got released Fallout 76 would not have had a chance in hell.

Yup, I mean the best Fallout in the 3D universe is still the one made by Obsidian. Could you imagine if we got one around Fallout 4? I mean building an outpost would probably have meaning, you might have proper endings that explain your time in the area did things, not oh look I helped the brotherhood of steel and bam ending.

Maybe, I am glad that they are working without Bethesda as big brother though.
New Vegas would have been even better without bethesda's input.

Would it have been a Fallout game though? I mean they wouldn't be allowed to use the Fallout stuff without consent from Bethesda? Even though New Vegas felt more like a true sequel to 2 then 3 did, in fact the ones made soley by Bethesda sometimes could be in a separate universe.

Hey, I am very glad New Vegas exists.
All I am saying is I am glad they are working on a new game without Bethesda, even if it is not within the Fallout universe.
