Fan Setup for Cm 690 ii Advanced Windowed

Hi all,

I'll have this beauty by Thursday next week, so I would like to get a head-start on getting some suggestions for the fan setup.

My setup:
CPU: Intel i7-2600K running at stock settings (for now)
CPU Cooler: Antec Kuhler H2O 620 (120mm radiator)
Motherboard: Asus P8H67-V
Memory: G.Skill F3-12800CL10D-16GBXL 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3-1600MHz 1.5V CL10
Storage: OCZ Vertex 4 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD for storage
GPU: Leadtek 9500GT 512 MB (...soon)
Case: Cooler Master CM690 II Advanced Windowed SP
Power Supply: Sea Sonic M12-II-520 Power Supply - 520W

Just for a refresher, here are the case's specs:
Coolermaster RC-692A-KWN5 , cm690ii Advanced , Black , Windowed side panel + Usb3.0 , no psu ( bottom placed psu design ) , with external eSATA x-dock + VGA retention bracket ( support 1 x 80mm fan ) , support upto 2 radiators , rubber stand for anti-vibration , tools free for Pci+3.5"+5.25" ; 2x usb3.0 + 2x usb2.0 + audio in/out - 3/4x 5.25" - ( 4x tool-free ) , 1/0 x 3.5" , 6x 3.5" hidden ( 4xhdd in removable hdd cage , side removable ) , with adapter for 2x2.5" hdd - 1x front 140mm blue-led fan with on/off switch + 1x rear 120mm fan + 1x top 140mm fan upto 10 fans - atx

So it does come standard with 3 stock fans - 2x 140mm and 1x 120mm.

Questions:
-I have an Antec Kuhler H20 620, which has a 120mm radiator. Is it better to mount this on the top or at the back, replacing the stock rear 120mm fan?

-How should I expand on cooling to improve airflow in the case. I also want to keep it relatively quiet. Where should I pull and exhaust air in this case? I haven't gotten it yet, so haven't had a detailed look at it.

-If expanding on cooling is recommended, what fan brands/models do you suggest - keeping in mind that I would like to keep the case pretty quiet.

Any other suggestions or tips/tricks for this case welcome.

You won't need to expand on cooling. 140mm front intake, 140mm top exhaust.

Thermalright X-Silent 120mm.
 
Fit the radiator on the back intake, and perhaps look at doing a push/pull setup. From what I've read, it can help drop temps another 2-3 degrees sometimes. As for the rest, leave it as is, that's enough air flow for that machine currently. When you get a better graphics card, then you can add some more fans.

As for quieter fans, I'm still on a hunt myself, but I've heard some tests of the Corsair SF fans, and at full tilt they are quite quiet. Noctua and Scythe fans are also good, but may be a little tougher to get hold of.
 

hey man. congratz on the awesome case, I have the exact same one :)

PP is quite right that you should mount the 120mm rad on the back(i prefer internal) with airflow sucking into the case. The reason for this, is that you want to bring the cooler air over the rad. On average the ambient air temp outside is always gonna be cooler than the air inside the case. push pull will get you another 2 or so degrees, if you got the extra identical fans lying around.

The best thing you can do, is take all those stock fans and throw them in the bin. Head on over to PPCS and get yourself some decent fans. My preference are these fans. They are not cheap, but well worth it. Link Performance PC's goodies

I can only tell you what I have, as everyone have personal preferences. I also have a 120mm rad on the rear (intake). I have replaced the stock 140mm(front) with a decent non-led fan (intake). One more 140mm on the side panel which i directly over my watercooled 6950. It's probably not even needed, but I like the idea of the direct air on the card/ram heatsinks that I put on seeing as I had to take the entire stock cooler off. I have 2 x 140mm at the top (exhaust) which are also non-stock fans. 1 x 140mm top would be enough to be honest, but I got another 2 x 120mm on my 240rad (gfx cooling) so I need that extra exhaust.

Its such a versatile case really, and I had a lot of fun messing around with all the various fan options. I settled on the above setup a long time ago, and Im very happy with it. It's probably the best case I have ever had to be quite honest.

Need to redo my entire watercooling setup this summer, so might have some up for grabs...

I still don't know what you're trying to achieve running an i7-2600K with an nVidia 9500GT?

dont be a douche :) the oke is obviously proud of his new system so dont be so Condescending. be happy for him!

its a lot easier to upgrade his GPU at a later stage than it is to upgrade his CPU/mobo/RAM configuration.
 
There is also the option of using a fan controller, which gives you more power to customise your cooling and noise level balance.

I'm not a douche ;) - I have just seen so many people get taken for a ride and was merely pointing out the bottleneck in his configuration. I don't know why you're even bothering with cooling when your GPU is going to hold your CPU back, even at stock speeds. Surely that money could have been put towards a new GPU, and worry about OC'ing later?

If I was a douche, I'd be pointing out all your punctuation errors, but I'm not, so I won't. :p

At this stage I'd assume this isn't a gaming PC? Or will be upgraded at a later stage...

i7 suggests intensive use other than gaming. Is this the case OP?

Are you getting the CPU second hand?

With a low end GPU like that you won't need extra cooling really.

I had to move my fans around and install a new front intake fan in my CM690 II Advanced, because my overclocked i7 920 @ 3.8GHz + 2x overclocked GTX460 @ 850MHz cards generate quite a lot of heat when gaming on 2560x1600.

It's not a gaming PC, but thanks for pointing this out nonetheless. I use the PC for CPU intensive tasks - working with large databases, querying, complex calculations, and the like. The GPU would not bottleneck anything here. CPU was bought new.

I do occasionally play around with Adobe AE and Sony Vegas, and I can see the bottleneck there, but this is more of a 'when I'm bored' hobby, which I'm not prepared to spend money on yet.

I do have plans to upgrade my GPU in the future, since I may have to use 3 displays eventually. Currently, I am using 2 - one at 1920x1080 and another at 1280x1024
