Far Cry 2 is out

Same company, different office, different engine and has been in development for roughly the same time as Crysis.

Not quite.

Far Cry 2 was developed by Ubisoft Montreal.
Previously they have developed Assasins creed,Lost, Tom clansy's rainbow six etc.

They actually also made far cry: instincts for the old xbox in 2005.

Crysis was developed by Crytek, which is based in Germany. They developed the original Far Cry.

Crysis was built on a heavily beefed up Cryengine, which powered Far Cry. Far Cry 2 uses the Dunia engine, which is totally distinct from anything related to Far cry and Crysis.

Ubisoft Montreal have stated that the link between Far Cry and Far Cry 2 is the concept of being lost in an exotic and foreign location. That is upposedly the main theme in both games.

"Far Cry 2 is the concept of being lost in an exotic and foreign location"

Makes perfect sense to me :)
Can't believe people are going on and on about the name...who gives a crap...plus the original FarCry was a stunning game...

I don't see a FC2 server working out, the Crysis one didn't.

COD4 is popular because its a fast flowing shooter, FC2 won't be... What is the point exploring HUGE maps, when you generally just wanna shoot the shyte outta other people...

I played on the Crysis server and it had about 15 people, took me almost 15 minutes to find someone and I couldnt' even kill them because they were in a vehicle traveling FAST in a direction.

COD4, I can't go 1 minute without either killing someone or dying myself.

FC2 might be a good game, but the maps are open ended (thus the example of Crysis)
Do you really want to run around for say, ±5 minutes before you can kill someone (or even just shoot at them?)

In that 5 minutes, you've wasted what...5mb of bandwidth.

Different strokes for different folks...

I enjoy that sorta stuff. I used to play Americas Army and Armed Assault quite a lot. The missions went on for long and is the best team work I've had in a game ever.
Im interested to see what type of mods are going to come out for this game...

I quite like the idea of travelling long distances, attacking and then returning to base with no casualties or few at least...

I need something thats fast and flowing or i get bored very fast.

T-Minus 60 minutes and counting .. then I'm outta here and on my way to my beloved FarCry2 :)

I'm still gonna hold off a few days and get feedback about any DRM issues ;)

Sapphire Radeon X1800 XT
2 Gigs DDR400 RAM
Core 2 Duo E6600 Processor
Windows XP Pro

Just as a side note, this game only weighs in at 3.15 gigs once installed. Not very big at all :)

cool, then I'm covered nicely too :D

I'm hoping to get access to the 'collectors' edition if I do buy it.

I won't download it though...

When I was little I "websourced" my games, but since I finished my studies etc I actually started taking pride in owning original titles.

I wanted to include FC2 in my pre-order along with COD5 and WotLK, but my PC doesnt match the required specs :(

Ye, tell me about it ... time for an upgrade methinks.

I got an 8600GT with 2gb ddr400, but my CPU is a 3000+ amd (bottleneck)

If I upgrade I'll have to get a complete new boxen

I've just taken the plunge and bought it. Along with Hell's Highway and Warhead.

Installed far cry 2 and when I launch game securom pops up with conflict with emulation software. What emulation software? I don't have deamon tools or alchol120 on my machine. This sucks I paid for the game and now I can't play it.

Anybody else have issues with securom and how did you fix it?

E-mail securom at their site... Think it's probably something like [email protected] ... Tell them that it's giving you a problem and that it refuses to run even though you don't have it installed and they'll e-mail you a new .exe for it.

All hail the mighty securom... May flies fester in their corpse.

This is the second game I played and want to throw up during/after gameplay, anyone else? First game is HL2.

FOV. Take a look my widescreen link. In HL2 IIRC you had to change the POV to 90 or something

LOL this is some funny shi!t right here :D :D :D

"Ek kan nie glo ek moet al weer herlaai nie"

Dit maak die game some stukke beter as mens kan verstaan wat hulle sê

Just wish I knew a bit more Zulu, not just how to greet and stuff.

As for comparing it to Crysis, you can't. Yes, it's the same developer, but they aim would be to make the gameply etc different to that of Crysis, or it might be seen as 'more of the sameness'.

Anyway, Farcry doesn't offer a sexy nano-suit...

Its definatly NOT made by the same company!

For those of you that are playing FC2, what are your thoughts so far?
