Farm Attacks

I agree with supersunbird that farmers must maximize security as far as possible and that you get cases where security is advanced but also the opposite where the doors are not even locked.

I have to however put it out there that this is not how it was up to the early 90's, round about the time that Constand Viljoen warned of danger on the farms and calling for farm safeguarding after intelligence pointed to a threat. My parents listened to radio pretoria and c. 1998 I became aware of the murder of farmers and the incidents which seemed to be about one a week to two weeks from the little I paid attention to, I also knew that it would increase in frequency and intensity and that attention to the matter and widespread awareness would come much later.

Advanced security was not needed prior to this and a free spirited lifestyle was customary on farms. Even the police and commando system could not have 'kept workers in their place' to ensure this tranquility and neither could the farmers themselves thus perhaps things just worked better back then despite the ideological flaws of Apartheid.

I'm saying this because one Englishman who is strongly into politics I reasoned with years ago pointed out that we do not know the race of the perpetrators due to articles often not even mentioning names/race and then he continued with something to the effect of 'how many of these incidents are due to some drunk white neighbor farmer getting into a fury and killing his host' (klippies stereotype and all). Why did farm murders not start in the mid 80's for example, the same principles of police and commandos having to often travel a long distance applied back then.

With the biased media people's mindsets, worldview, perceptions and convictions have been programmed to that of evil farmers essentially deserving what is happening to them. A section, and possibly a majority of ESSAS' preconceptions have been reinforced while Afrikaners themselves are in denial, going around rather sheepishly to show how non-racist they are while in other instances overwhelmed by a sense of futility.

Neighbors renting home on the farm where I Keep a place were attacked around midnight before Xmas while enjoying drink on their
Stoop. He was a local biltong seller their kid was on a sleepover and it was a warm muggy night when several armed men rushed them out of the night. He raced off in the direction of the bedroom leaving his young wife in the living room, presumably to fetch his firearm but he was pursued and his wife heard a shot ring out. Unknown to her he was shot dead in the back.
Then the invaders turned to her and she recalls dark evil eyes telling her they were going to rape her
And they told her to undress.
Then the security company response vehicle s headlights illuminated the living room and the intruders fled; slipping away silently into the night under the cover of dense lush bush.
RIP George
So needless, wanton and unnecessary a loss
In the aftermath life carried on for the brave family but you never know when the bullet with your name is coming to find you however the odds are high.
I did some research and I found that these are not exclusively farm murders. Farms are easy targets. However farmers won't go without a fight so the older weaker likely unarmed people are prey. In a four year period I personally now know three people hunted and killed with a shot to the back. The first was my drone instructor and a transplant from Upington a bright 24 year old guy with a wife and his whole life ahead of him. They came to hazy view under darkness to the lodge where he rented a house and when he went to answer the door he was shot in the back from behind through a side window. Instantaneous death and again no suspects.
By far the worse killing was a very special woman who was a vet and designed racehorse food for all Sheik Maktoum of Dubai s racehorses around the world.
She lived on an equestrian estate where fellow residents had built her a cottage for her and she stabled her horse
The estate was outside town on yaverland rd which is in white River
I won't go into much detail but she was found hanging from the curtains with a medley of kitchen knives sticking
In her.
She was tortured raped and strangled
Her killer was eventually apprehended and was set for trial last year but it was discovered that he had died of some illness in a prison hospital in Barberton several months before so justice was never served
And the killings farm or or small holding continue most of them unreported in the press on the national level
But local papers might merit a column or two.
Most recently the attention or trend has returned to vehicle tracking and robbery
Not a week ago near the farm where I sometimes reside the SAPS exchanged gunfire from a helicopter down to several truck hijackers
Who fled in the plantation on our farm where despite thick bush private security apprehended one suspect in the river.
The other three or four fled silently as they always do, into the dense green bush.
Their victim? The Truckdriver? Recalls evil dark eyes opening his cab door and shooting him straight in the back between L 2 and L3
This paralyzed him instantly so he could not stop the crawling truck
A second and third shot found his stomach and a deliberate shot to the knee
He was one of the lucky ones -lucky to escape death but no longer able to work again as the sole breadwinner.
Yes the killings and torture continue
we live in dangerous times but we adapt as nothing is going to change.

Ok this is pretty sobering news in from various reliable sources in the security forces ...we have had 18 farm and small holding murders in the past 20 days of feb 2017 in Mpumalanga
One typical attack was in Dullstroom area and an elderly couple living on a farm as pensioners i.e. Not actively farming were attacked and the British male was stabbed several times to the hands throat and stomach while his female partner was blowtorched to the face and tortured both were I believe driven off in their own bakkie and one was dumped blindfolded and when he removed blindfold he made his way to the road and found partner with head covered already in a coma and security forces removed bag and transported both to hospital where one remains in critical condition and the other is stable but serious and out of danger. So where is the MyBB advocates that claims this tortures and murders are purely coincidental and Malemas songs/speaches have no influence?

Savage inhumane scum like these murdering savages cannot be defended unless you are part and parcell with their agenda.

Just blow it under the carpet like the ANC and Zuma would as I am sure these criminals savages see Zumas radical plans the way the ANC wants them to see it.

Blowtorched, beaten and shot for £19

A survivor of South Africa’s rising tide of attacks on farms tells of the ordeal that left his wife dead

Sitting in an armchair in his comfortable home, decorated with Axminster carpets and pictures of Royal Navy ships, Rob Lynn, 67, oscillates between anger and disbelieving grief.

In the early hours of last Sunday, the former soldier was woken by a hail of bullets from outside his bedroom window. His wife, Susan Howarth, 64, suffered a head wound and a bullet nicked his finger as he sought to shield himself.

Three armed men burst into the house demanding cash, any weapons and access to the safe. In a merciless all-night ordeal, the couple endured torture with a blowtorch and suffocation with plastic bags, as well as being beaten and stabbed.

BREAKING NEWS: Suspects snack before farm attack

IT was an afternoon of hell for an elderly Heatonville couple who became victims of a farm attack this afternoon.

It is believed the three suspects, after rummaging through their house, brazenly sat down at the kitchen table and helped themselves to cheese and liver pate before their victims arrived home.

At about 5pm, Bruce and Denise Harvey of Plaas Nie te Koop farm in Heatonville arrived home from town.

Bruce attended to his generator outside while his wife Denise proceeded to enter their home.

Once Denise entered she noticed their fruit bowl had been moved before a man appeared from behind the door, grabbed her, forced her into the bush and sat on her in an attempt to keep her from getting away.

At the same time another suspect attacked Bruce while he was bending over.

The suspect jumped on Bruce and stabbed him with a screwdriver in his elbow.

‘He hit me on the head and kept on hitting me on the head asking me where my firearms and money were,’ Bruce told the ZO.

Guard stabbed 10 times as gang attacks farm

Cape Town – A group of about 15 men whose faces were smeared with mud attacked a farm in the Chatsworth area in the Western Cape, stabbing a security guard about 10 times.

The gang attacked two security guards on a farm on Friday evening, said community member Jacques Bernando.

One of the guards fled, while being shot at, and called for help, Netwerk24 reported.

The other guard pressed his panic button and was stabbed while fighting back with his baton.

The attackers then made their way to the farmhouse.

The gang arrived at Dassenberg, between Atlantis and Chatsworth, at about 19:00.

Johan van Tonder, who lives on the farm, said he saw the group of about 15 men about 60m from his house. He fired two warning shots with his shotgun.

The group split up to get away from the gunfire, but one of them came back and fired a shot.

'They all looked the same'

The police were at the scene within minutes of being alerted, and a group of people in four bakkies also arrived to help. The gang scattered and fled.

Van Tonder and his wife Lizette were unharmed.

Van Tonder said he hadn't recognised anyone in the group of attackers, but he was sure no farmworkers were involved.

The motive for the attack is unknown and it is unclear if anything was stolen.

I’m getting to the point where these attacks are orchestrated to send a message to these communities. I only hope that the guard is okay and that he will recover.

It's amazing how these things spike every time the land issue comes up.

It's an orchestrated assault on farming communities to drive fear into them to either sell or move to town. There is someone behind this bank rolling these people.

See, now these people had much better security setup it seems. Armed and ready to fire, not surprised by people already in the house with guns lying useless in a safe.
A lot better. This is probably the way to go. Sorry to hear about the security guard, they also need weapons and a bit more training.

Yea, because they had two permanent guards employed. Wonder which farmers can afford that luxury :o

Robbers tortured woman with drill in farm attack

Johannesburg – Robbers tortured a 64-year-old woman with a drill when they attacked her at her home on a farm in the Vaal area on Friday night, police said.

Spokesperson Lt-Col Lungelo Dlamini said she was attacked by three men on the farm on the Kalbasfontein road between Fochville and Carletonville.

"They used a drill to torture her," said Dlamini.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said earlier that when they arrived on the scene, they found three dead dogs, and the woman lying in a pool of blood.

Police could only confirm the death of one dog.

Meiring said she had a serious head injury, lacerations to her wrist and puncture wounds on her feet.

"Paramedics immediately began their treatment of the patient, as well as providing her with several advanced life support interventions," said Meiring.

She was rushed to the Vereeniging Mediclinic for further treatment.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Alliance said the attack on the woman, who they named as Nicci Simpson, stressed the urgency of the need for rural safety units.

"These attacks have far-reaching implications for South Africa’s food security, and the well-being of our farming communities," said an agriculture spokesperson for the party, Ina Cilliers.

Simpson's stolen bakkie has since been located but the robbers are still at large.
