Farm Invasions

Its a small step from a few guys invading a farm to countrywide farm invasions. Especially with people like malema there to encourage them. You seem to underestimate the power of mob mentality.

it's also a big step from robbing the evil white man to invading any farm they feel entitled to. i know all about mob mentality, i also know all about paranoia.

Its already happening. This "big step" you speak of has already been taken.

with this news report? i've heard all about these big steps, Mandela getting out of prison, BEE, Zuma becoming president. it's just more paranoia

This is not the first time this has happened. There have been a few incidents over the past few years where a community has decided that land belongs to them.

Land is a big issue in SA and many people think it should all be in black hands. Bring in a loud mouth like malema and things could turn pear shaped quickly.

The fact that the land invasions happened in zim and nobody did anything about it should raise red flags. Burying your head in the sand and ignoring the facts won't change the outcome.

So you don't think its a serious problem when a mob is trying to seize private property?

[sarcasm]

nope, its not the same mo as the farm invasions in zim, it is not government sanctioned and it happens in other countries as well.

Its perfectly acceptable...

[/sarcasm]

some people

you're using a bad news story as an example then, the farm WAS in black hands. another thing to take into consideration is that this is not Zim. we're our OWN separate country. how many people said that this country was going to go pear-shaped when Zuma came into power? and that was not too far back.

what happened to Zim was bad and even terrible, but i don't know what is with everyone's obsession to compare our country with Zim now. as far as i know Mugabe has been in power since the 1980s, and we've had 3 different presidents. we have a democracy while Zimbabwe is a tyranny. feel free to correct me, but i'm not arguing that it couldn't happen, i'm arguing that there is no evidence for it at all, or yet.

Of course there are big differences between the country's but the views of the majority of the people towards farmers is very similar.

Politically, SA is much better off than zim. This would probably change if the anc ever lost an election though. My point is that regardless of what the governments official line is, the peoples mob mentality is where the danger lies. To ignore this is just being naive.

The fact that we've changed presidents and haven't descended into civil war hasn't stopped people like malema from saying very destructive things that could cause big problems for the country.

Yes. People who compare S.A to Zim are total noobs. We are the two most different countries in Africa.

One is the richest country in Africa , the other the poorest. One is the most autocratic , the other the most democratic. One has an economy is ruins and the others economy has enjoyed record expansion. About the only similarity is that we both have black governments and I think this is what people are saying. We have a black government now too therefore we are like zim. Idiots.

To: Therooster and smalltownsky. You guys really typify the meaning of denialism. Its not bad to deny small misrepresentations of the facts, but to try and confuse forumites into thinking that we are living in lala land is not right. While you are entitled to your own opinion every news article or fact is expediently contradicted by you and even if you mean well it might be your own defence mechanism kicking in as a way of avoiding the truth and facts. Say your say and then move on.

You want to look me in the eye and tell me this story equates to South Africa turning into Zimbabwe ? Get serious please.

Denialism. That's a new one. Especially when I'm practicing something called "rationalism" and most of the posters here are stuck living in "the sun" newspaper version of critical thought. Drama, drama , drama. Yawn.

Ello cock, dunno if you know this, but Zim are/were as rich/maybe richer than us in minerals.
They produced enough food for the whole of Africa.

Even King Solomon hid some of his crap there.

Are you serious ?

All our gold , coal and platinum ?

Even if it were true mineral wealth does not an economy make.

Oh lord where did you suck that one out of? What do you think made this country? Zimbabwe used to have a thriving economy, great institutions of learning and a lot less hunger. Mugabe had all that when he took over and he has now pissed and destroyed it all. Not the previous government, him personally.

At least here we have a constitution and checks to stop this type of maniac from rising up but with fallacies like Shaik's possible pardon, the new appointment of the NPA head, if the ruling party undermines the constitution, then this country has a problem.

And you know whats worse? The ruling party will become exactly what they fought against.

If the road to being Zim 2 was 100% we are currently around 10%.

Richest Countries in Africa Rank Country GDP - per capita 1 Equatorial Guinea $ 50,200 2 Mauritius $ 13,500 3 South Africa $ 13,000 4 Libya $ 12,700 5 Botswana $ 11,400
