Fastest broadband speed tests in SA

Impressive from Telkom. Incidentally, I regularly see 50mbps plus here in Durban on MTN using speedtest.net.

Impressive but Telkom Mobile does not offer it for phone cause of the frequency used... So it more a broadband option for home mainly....

MTN LTE on the otherhand have pretty impressive coverage... The most I've seen and I think its safe to say they have the most LTE coverage.

Could you please explain more... for the not so intelligent.

Telkom Mobile/8ta uses 2300Mhz TDD band 40 for their LTE. Sadly not many phones support this LTE frequency. I stand to be corrected but only the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c but specific models support that LTE frequency. That said even if you get one of those devices Apple has not approved Telkom Mobile LTE carrier update it yet so the LTE option is not selectable and you only have Enable 3G slider and not the enable LTE slider.

So my wording was a bit wrong there. It will work on a phone if you can find a device that supports it but good luck with that.

With regards to MTN LTE it works on basically every single LTE enabled phone, tablet or router so you will have better success with MTN LTE on a phone than with Telkom Mobile.

Well done vodacom , thinking of getting a LTE router and an unlimited vodacom sim card ..... One problem i have with DSL in S.A is the upload speed ... That is Where cellular broadband wins me over , also vodacom prob has the fastest network but i've noticed more 3g /LTE coverage than with vodacom , clearly noticeable when you're driving down the N1

"MyBroadband revamped its South African internet connection testing platform in August 2013"

It's a barebones OOKLA test?

This was my speedtest result from a few weeks ago:

That sir, is impressive backup up by a nice low ping.. :D

Unfortunately, that's only in a specific area. At the Wimpy Drive Through in Highveld, Centurion. Everywhere else I get 30 Mb/s or lower.

Yes I think MTN has a set 30-35Mbps for most of its LTE towers but the higher speeds are in the popular or densly populated areas only. I always only get +-29Mbps but if I got to places like Durban Umhlanga you will get 50Mbps +

Vodacom... really?
Funny I didnt see them in those results, is that because their network is slower or because no vodacom users utilized the mybb speedtest?

Vodacom's LTE is the worst in the country. I get better speeds on HSPA+ 18 - 25Mbps than I do on LTE which is sub 10Mbps where I live. Vodacom is suffering from a lack of spectrum in the band they chose.

They had been given the frequency band. This is a big problem for them, as the results also show. If they can't get better spectrum from ICASA, then they are going to keep on lacking w.r.t LTE.

Thanks for the correction. Re-farming of available spectrum can only do so much.
