The ritual repeats itself and selfishly I thrive on it...

Every year on Father's day since we had our first child two decades ago, I perform the same ritual.....

I pretend to be fast asleep alone in my winter bed as the family push through the bedroom door carrying a tray of goodies for their father.... I let out a gentle fake snore, they laugh, a small giggle accompanied by .."Papa!, we know you ain't sleepin'" for this is the day I get to be king.....

Sadly as the years roll by and two of the three have flown the coop I am reminded how blessed I have been to have experienced the privilege of being a father...

This afternoon, after work, I get to put my feet up, light a fire, listen to Bob Seger and the likes thereof whilst sipping on a winter whisky...

To all you fathers out there....have a great one...

Quick question what is Snowy called in Afrikaans?

Why was Tintin called Kuifie :). Yeah I got some nice goodies this year. 6 years old is better then other years

Today was the first father's day without my dad, he passed away last month. I spent some time with my mom and brothers, I think they needed some comfort as well.

All I can say to others is this: cherish it. I miss my dad, even though the last few years we didn't really get along after his first stroke, I'd give a kidney to hear him laugh or do one of his annoying things again.

Go hug your dads guys

my 2.5 year old son jumps on the bed and says happy fathers day with a hug and a kiss

i tell him the best gift is to let me hold you for 10seconds. so he curls up in my arms and counts to 10

best moments

Sorry to hear about your loss, I understand what you are going through I lost my mum about 3 weeks ago, its not easy at all. Its a rollercoaster of emotions. I am glad I did everything in my power to always make her happy and make sure she had whatever she needed. People out there that have parents don't take them for granted until its too late. Also make sure you have enough photos and videos of them. I am lucky my mum loved pictures I have so many albums with pictures which is so unlike me I hate taking pictures.

All the best Akasha and grief in your own way and don't let anyone tell you how to do it.

Got some chocolate, deodorant and a bottle of Tobasco sauce. Daughter said it is representative of me, so I replied "oh, you think I'm not sweet enough, I stink and swear too much?" Got a good chuckle from both kiddies and mom.

The card was great too (has upside down cartoon monkey on front):

Outside: Some primates pick bugs off their father as a sign of affection, appreciation and respect.
Inside: I thought you'd prefer a card. THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO DAD, HAPPY FATHER'S DAY

And the inside has a personalised message from each of them.

My (grown-up) kideos brought everything needed for a braai, incl salads & even drinks..

My responsibility was to defrost some Karoo lamb chops, start a fire & braai.

They even packed the diswasher afterwards..

Best father's day ever! :D

I need to up my Mother's Day game - wife is kicking my a$$ in the presents department.

My condolences, lost my dad in 2002 when I was 16.

Agreed. Was a very tough day. Go hug your dads as often as you can.

I got woken up (also had to act like I was sleeping since I've been working for two hours before my son got woken up) with a gift bag. A huge coffee cup, some chocolates and various biltong pieces in the bag. Also loads of hugs during the day.

I envy you guys. Only thing I got was a recipe book my youngest made at school (she knows I like cooking)
