Why? Look at G-Sense Error Rate. With low power-on value it is very high. I don't think your warranty is valid, as drive received machanical shocks. It is recorded in SMART statistics and technicians will look at.

Assuming your data is out, try to rewrite entire surface, it will help relocate problematic areas. Secure erase works even better (and faster) as firmware knows it can destroy all user data. After doing this check drive condition by meassuring delays and post results here.

In utilities like MHDD. To use MHDD on latest computers, you need to temporary change SATA controller settings in BIOS to "compatible mode" and boot DOS from CD-ROM/USB, not a Windows from your hard drive, as you might get BSD. Download from http://www.hdddguru.com. Hiren's Boot CD has both MHDD and DOS/Windows versions of Victoria.
 
I am busy running format through, linux, which fills the drives with 0's....is that the same?
 
Almost. Long format (with surface scan) in Windows do the same.
After zerofill scan for delays to make sure that defects had been remapped and heads are still in good condition.

You need to set a password before you proceed and check that it's cleared afterwards.

Half work done. Now scan your hard drive for delays as per previous posts and report here. And a new SMART report afterwards.
 
hope i am running the right scan.....its just showing blocks and running.
what must i look out for?how long will it take?

Ponder , MHDD software is confusing a bit....please help me.
I manage to get it up and running, it can see the drive....then what do i do?
F4 to scan?
how do i get the att and errlog?
 
In MHDD press F1 for help. Very typical for DOS programs, Windows imported it, isn't?
F8 brings SMART attributes, outdated and incomplete, but you can use Windows programs when you need SMART report (sometime later).
For now press F4 twice for scan (as you did - juding from the picture).
So far scan doesn't show significant problems (there is one warning), but it is just beginning of the scan, you must scan entire surface and take picture when finished. Based on this I can tell you what to do next.
Make note of LBA values of these warnings and possibly errors, it might be needed later.
I wonder why do you ask ponder? :)
