File manager: Midnight Commander - lightning-fast, powerful console file manager and ftp client
Editor: mcedit - midnight commander's internal editor, can be run stand-alone

I run these on both Linux and Mac.

If that's what you like then I suggest you give Worker & Gentoo a spin. Worker kicks ass.

If you have ever used Directory Opus on Amiga then you would know what I'm talking about, nothing to date has ever come close to DirOpus.

Man it has been ages since I posted. Has got to be FOG. Free alternative to Ghost. You can run it of most distros. Automatically rename your computers, Join therm to Active Directory, Scan for Virii om MS boxes, Wipe Harddrives, Recover Data.....devide by 0

Just wanna say that SongBird used to be my fav for listening to music...but I now listen to my music on VLC. The equalizer on VLC is simply AMAZING! Nothing can beat the bass that software can pump out. I love bass and the deeper and richer i can get it the better. WOW for VLC equalizer! *grin*

I very seldom play music directly from Linux as I usually stream to my PS3. If I do play music on my pc, I usually use Rythmbox.
