Feeling like a failure?

I'm 37.

Compared to the above ... I'm ****ed. I get in the low teens.

And yet people expect teachers to bend over backwards for almost everything because we chose to work with YOUR children.

I just want to get this off my bare chest. I FKING HATE Kids. Ok, I feel better now.

R32k and you're depressed. Sorry but the people in here kinda sound right. For that amount you can live a quite comfortable life. You are earning more than 90% of people here and more than most people in your same position. If you are not happy with that you have set your goals too high. Stop looking at what your friends are earning. The mere fact you're doing that means you are comparing yourself to them. It's not your situation that determines your happyness but how you feel about it. If you can't make ends meet you are doing something wrong or raked up huge debt.

@Stefanmuller. What? You don't call those things extravagant? You can get by without the day care. People should start taking care of their own kids like it used to be. Do your own work instead of employing a domestic. You don't need a new phone every two years. I used mine for about 8 years before getting a new one and I'm still using both. I can get a new car for less than your second hand ones. Clothes can be bought cash if and when you need them though some stores give nice discounts for opening an account. Don't treat it as an account though.

Let me tell you something. There's no nobility in poverty. I've been a poor man, and I've been a rich man. And I choose rich every f..king time. Coz at least as a rich man when I have to face my problems, I show up in the back of a limo wearing a 2,000 dollars suit and a 40,000 dollars gold f..king watch. - Jordan Belfort, The Wolf of Wall Street

Lol OK.

We need creche because we both need to work. So leave the kid at home? Medical aid you need. Five work shirts and three trousers and a set of work shoes and a belt and a few socks will cost you R3k. If you buy brand it can cost you R6k Thats R300 per month for house brand and then you only have work clothes for the year.

Woman obviously have more clothes plus makeup and other stuff. So hers is probably more than R500 and mine less but comes to R1 000 total. Whether cash or not no diffs.

Domestic can do without I agree. It is a once a week domestic. House is clean and more time with the kid.

What I do not understand from threads like these is that as soon as someone lists common expenses, then everyone should be happy and accept it as normal to only have the breadline basics. Yet you get things like cell phones, DSTV, internet, etc etc but somehow this is only for the super rich. Suddenly you are compared to the average salary in the country whilst the majority sits without matric let alone university degrees. OP did not say he has std6 and is unhappy with R32k. Nor did I say that. I showed you what a university degree gives you, which is not much. Unless you think driving a Ford Fiesta is only for the super rich? Its an entry level hatch back that costs R180k. I showed you these expenses not because I am unhappy what I earn, but to show you what you need to earn to afford that.

The question is why do you need to afford it all? If your point was that a person needs to be able to afford all these to be happy then yes. But you can still be happy with a lot less than that. No need to have the latest and greatest cellphone every two years. No need for new clothes every year when your old ones probably still fit and are fine. You listed cars that are anything but basic if their second hand price is more than that of entry level new cars. Kia, Hyundai and Tata all have cheaper options that don't carry the name of the person that invented the car, because that's what you are essentially paying for with these big names.

What I'm wondering is if your salary isn't too low for where you are? Are you the one that makes R28k? Is the 8 years experience between the 2 of you?

Planning on becoming a CA?

OT:Why are PMB indian guys so ' different' ? I've never met a normal indian pmb guy.

What's wrong with PMB Indian guys  Ok :p I will put my hand up and say I am one of the 'different' guys lol.

Anyway, on topic. OP, it really is about your priorities. If you want money then prioritise making money. If you are not happy with your situation then change it. Life really is what you make of it.

Secondly, comparing yourself to others will always make you depressed. The human mind is conditioned to look at where we are lacking. There is absolutely nothing wrong with your salary. Maybe there is something else that is bothering you but you are projecting it as money?

32k p/m is nothing to scoff at, but if you are worried that you are 'falling behind' then make the change. Only you can :)

Its all about perspective, helps you be appreciative of what you have in life.

Also,

/Tongaat checking in :D

and no, i dont know anything about any mall.

I have thought about this topic over the last few days and all I can now say in response to the thread title is that if you feel like a failure earning what you earn at the age you are; you're a failure.

Anyone that cannot find some kind of inner strength or be satisfied with success in life is a failure.
If you need to come here to get us to pat you on the back and help you to feel better about your comfy life, you're a failure.

In short, you fail.
Get your head out of your ass.

Yoh wish I could afford a Ford Fiesta, and I earn more than the OP.

We are so harsh on the man....

I for one have sympathy. Yes he is actually very successful with that given salary, but.... Perhaps he has had higher goals for himself at that age.

So what I would say is, don't feel depressed, because well fck you have a lavish salary, but don't stop looking for ways to better that figure

some of my friends that started working with me, are earning double OPs salary. They are only 28.
Lesson to learn, comparing yourself to others will kill you, slowly.

He's a failure for not being able to see the success he has.
