Yes do not need two cars being paid off but both had 12 year old cars with 300k on so had to replace. Took a second hand bigger car and a very low R200k car for the wife as she needs something reliable.
Life is expensive.

I look at that and my brain automatically thinks your cellphone bill should be half that. Clothes can be halved.
Buy a R120k run around for the missus and a R200k family car and you can save R2k a month right there. You'll need that extra 2k for when your kid gets to school.
It is amazing how frugal I have come to be. It is depressing. I save every non-essential cent and still can't afford a decent place.
Property is expensive as hell. We own a townhouse in a very average area of Pretoria, and it's worth around R1.3m these days. I've been looking at a bigger place as we're thinking of starting a family, and you just don't get very far with less than R2.5m in the nicer areas of Pretoria. Hell, a small plot of land (<800m2) is about R1m in the Waterkloof area.
Yip. I earn significantly more than OP and the same goes for my wife, but I'll be damned if I consider a 2.5m house affordable, even taking into account the area. I honestly don't know how people do it... They must be scraping by after those bond payments.I live in Cape Town so I feel the pain of property prices and cost of living in general.
