Hi all, just wanted to know whether or not I'd have to pay for a fibre installation if the Telkom website says that there is fibre at my home address, I presume they've layed cable to my house (not inside though). So does this mean I can get fibre easily, or there is more installations to be done?

There is various ISP's that will provide you with a Fibre service using Telkom (Openserve) Fibre. Telkom wil also provide but they will rope you into a 24 month contract when they do the installation and router for free. Others like WebAfrica will arrange the installation for Free and also give you a router for free without the 24 month contract. In WebAfrica case at the moment they wil also waive the first 2 month payments. But there is other ISP's that have similar options.

The Fibre is normally in the street in front of your home so when you order it the Openserve will install from the street into your house. Then the ISP will supply you with an router which you plug into the termination box of the Fibre that is in your house. This installation can take anything from a couple of days to months depending on area, ISP and availability of technicians to do the installation.

Hope this make sense.

Cool, just what I wanted to know.

Openserve/Telkom's prices are quite bad compared to other companies' offerings, so maybe I'll just stick with ADSL for now and think about fibre in the future, but thanks for the info mate ;)

MTN have a good offer where I live. But when I phoned them to order it, they told me they don't have any technicians to do the work.
