My understanding is that the 'fibre loop' is almost complete and they will start on each complex first come first serve.

Is that correct?

Thats almost correct... but i think they will have the complex order (as per which complex signed up first) and then per unit in that complex, again per unit that signed up first.

Trying to get an update to see whats happening, as it doesn't seem that the Fibrehoods to Vumatel handover happened.

Apparently NorthRiding handover (Fibrehoods -> Vumatel) has been delayed to the 18th May...

Initio started in my complex this week. They busy laying cables in the existing "tunnels" throughout the complex. No unit installations yet.

Fibrehoods have completed their installation, Vumatel have started contacting out units to get ISP & Package preferences... next step is a call to book an unit install date.

I've been looking at the Vumatel prices since the roll-out has started with loads of excitement.
Sadly this excitement has crashed into frustration and disappointment when I saw that there is quite a price difference in packages for suburbs that are trenched, and suburbs that are aerial. Not only are all the ISP's NOT available, but where I could have gotten a 20/20 uncapped with Cybersmart, I'm now pretty much left with options for 4/1 at the same price.

Surprised that Vumatel doesn't state the difference more clearly on their website; I'm sure if you look more closely its there some-ware...

Not really, so that is the difference between "fibrehoods" areas and "Vumatel Aerial" areas, they are all going to align by the end of the year to Vumatel Aerial.

They did send a letter saying they are speaking to all the ISP's to get them all over the entire network before the end of the year. I'm just disappointed that where I thought I'll be able to get a better line speed for the price I'm paying now (4mg adsl including stupid telkom line rental for a fixed line that i dont even have a telephone attached to), I'll pretty much be getting the same.

Yes, it will be more stable and lower latency I know: Just tired of battling for bandwidth with the wife :p

My ONT was installed last week Thursday, Initio's guys have been busy in our complex connecting the units for almost two weeks now.
I think we just waiting to be spliced up onto the MFN cables outside. getting close.

I also see we are now getting the fibre router for free instead of the R570 charge as stated before. Happy times are almost here. My ADSL at home is not so great so cannot wait to see how fibre will perform.

Nice!

We got this from Initio

We wish to advise that the Big Technical site survey has been completed. This is the one that gives MFN their entire financial commitment.

This has been sent to the Directors to sign off.

Once we have them back, the Business case is finalised and we get build commence dates. Timelines can vary slightly, but to give an average it should be about two weeks.

From there, if underground reticulation is sound we could have your complex complete shortly after that. As an indication, we have done complexes your size that took 8 weeks, and recently one that took 3. It all depends whats underground and how fast residents make themselves available for TP installation.

We urge residents to please understand that the entire complex, with all home connections is being done for FREE, And MFN is following the most expensive installation route, re: full underground reticulation. This is a massive financial outlay for them and hence why they tend to be meticulous with the process. Sure, the complex could have gone a quicker route, with aerial strung fibre on gum poles and also with residents having to fork out their own individual connection costs.

Furthermore, residents are getting the “cleanest” fibre connection available in SA: Uncapped, unshaped, Symmetrical and with ZERO fair usage policy, meaning they can download as much as they desire and NEVER be throttled – EVER!

I work at VoIP distributor and a friend is going to purchase a number of phones to sell to his community in Boskruin at a very decent. I was trying to get Initio to do the same thing actually - I reckon if people are offered the phone, they'll take it and cut ties with Telkom.

But I think their core focus is kinda just rolling out fibre

I'm quite jealous of you. Between Vumatel, Britelink and Cool Ideas, I have absolutely NO idea where the holdup is for anyone to contact me to schedule the installation from the grey box outside my balcony to inside my flat.

My fibre is live and running on Initio. I can immediately see the difference between 10MB fibre vs 10MB ADSL.
downloads are much faster, streaming is much smoother and browsing is instant. Online gaming has no noticeable lag. everything i normally use that requires internet is just better. Its also awesome to have 10MB upload. I can host/share game sessions. And its cheaper then my existing ADSL capped package.
We had a few hiccups when the fibre came on but MFN and Initio sorted it out quickly.

Anyone else live on Intio360 or MFN? whats your thoughts. I know they are busy with other complex installs on Bellairs drive.

I am green with envy. It seems that fibre installation has ground to a complete halt in my complex. We have been approved and the rollout was planned months ago it seems that I am stuck with telkom for the indefinite future.

Confirmation of fibre line installation was received on 14 June. There was no agreement with the installer so we are free to choose an ISP for MFN. I have taken my time in looking at ISPs and gone for Cool Ideas but can see from a post on this forum that they may not have the best customer service but are among the cheaper offerings. From what I noticed, the price may have been cheaper from Cool Ideas if I could pay for a Vumatel agreement (with Fibrehoods). I am going for similar price to what I was paying by obviously with higher bandwidth so not sure if a comparison on my side will make any sense (uless its worse lol).

Now need to get an ONT installed by MFN as I only have a terminal point in my study and. The router is ready and waiting. Once it is settled in, I can give feedback.
