Is that 50% on actual packages or just the fibre point in the house?

I dont think they have started with installs on any complex yet, do you know of any? For Initio specific. I think just hang in there, it will be soon. I'm in the same boat. waiting for them to start the installs at our complex.

Update on our side.... Fibrehoods are doing in complex installations, but we would have to wait for NorthRiding to go active, before unit installations begin... this is scheduled (without any delays changing the date) to the end of April / Beginning of May.

Hi guys

What costs are you guys being charged for the rollout?

Do fibre providers/re sellers handle the costs differently when rolling out fibre to a complex vs a normal standalone residence?

I see deals where you get free connection and activation plus free router.
In our complex we get free installation but R999 connection fee and we have to buy the router for R549

Is this about right? MFN is the fibre provider and Initio the ISP

Thanks

Fibrehoods arent charging us anything for the infrastructure in the complex.
Vumatel however are charging each resident R1710 to bring in the CPE into their units

I got this :

We have chosen a fibre solution to best suit our needs. Welcome to Initio, who fall under the MFN Network.

We have considered many factors like build time and quality, security issues and also the best fibre solution, where your line will run smoothly at your promised speeds, even during high usage times.

The other reason is your Termination Point; this is your connection from the “spine” in the complex, into your home. Unlike other solutions we have seen that charge up to R2000 per connection, Initio’s offer is a FREE connection!

Free connection Fee... but they over charging you!! (100mbps R1,800)

With that cost for a 100mbps line, they'll make WAY more than they would with a connection fee

May I ask who made "your" decision to go with that provider? (reason i'm asking is i've heard of a couple complexes that are making the decision at body corporate level, as someone knows someone in IT that knows more than the home owners do)

Honestly you guys are being shafted by Initio that's crazy prices.

I agree the prices are high compared to others i have seen, hence i will only select the 10mb uncapped option for R665.

The only options my HOA had to choose was between Fibrehoods and Initio on MFN. Fibrehoods was ruled out because of the overhead fibre. No other ISPs on MFN were considered as far as i know.

I have suggested Cool ideas to my body Corporate but to no avail. Needless to say there haven't been much interested for these packages. Not alot of people have signed up. I just hope once we are live it doesn't take long before we can select our own ISP.

The next option is 25MB uncapped for 899, the web says 960. i think still needs to be updated.

Why not go direct with MFN? why the middle man Initio? OK the 899 seems more inline with whats out there.

I also gave them a contact of the sales lady at MFN before everything else. not sure what was the outcome.
I have done my part to help. Now i just want fibre so i can move on.

Soo, it seems our complex is going for TITC SA to provide us with all the rest of the service from the complex gate onwards. All I can find about this company are two bad reviews on HelloPeter for installation delays and bad service. If anyone can give input about them, please let me know.

The estimated completion date for the complex is 5 June. Summary is as follows (all prices inclusive of VAT):

1. Activation R570
2. Equipment: one model free on any package, the other free if you take a 12 month contract and 25 Mbps or higher
3. Data is uncapped, unshaped, unlimited(whatever unlimited means?) and symmetrical.
4. 10Mbps R733
5. 25Mbps R1059
6. 50Mbps R1384
7. Includes 1 static IP address (more at additional cost)

That looks steep, and i though Initio was steep. Why are the "new" companies coming in so aggressive?

Fibrehoods have trenched in a complex on Dexter road, if the cost per unit to install is low then they will trench.

Need to understand this better.
When trenched into the complex, how does it enter the actual units? Via conduits/trunking plus a drilled hole into the allocated room or all the way up into the eaves and down again?

Seems the Fibrehoods way is that they'll pin or channel above ground as far as possible from street-level and between units (the complex's "back-bone"), but when it comes to getting it inside, it has to go open/aerial from the CTP to be inserted into the eave and the 'drop team' then pulls it into the allocated room via the ceiling or via existing conduit (if available) and hook-up with the ONT (or whatever the acronym for the last box in the chain is).

So in the case that i know of, they have trenched right up to the blocks in the complex, theres a form of fibre ring that runs into the complex, and its trenched to each block. In the trench they place conduit pipes to run the fibre and place mini manholes at certain points. The fibre eventually runs to each block (trenched no overhead) from the ring to a splitter box I assume, and from this box the fibre will be pinned to the wall of each unit, then a hole through the wall and into each individual unit.

Same thing was done at my complex.

From the 'splitter' box outside my unit, there's a white pvc pipe that runs against my fence and then into my unit. My front yard is paved, so I didn't have much choice, but later on I will trench the pipe below my paving. There's enough slack from the outside box for me to do it myself.

Good feedback, thanks.

When the unit is a free standing with a significant distance between the next plus a perimeter wall in between, I suppose trenching is out of the question. So the PVC pipe with cable on/against walls seem to be at the order of the day.

One more thing - I see on the Cool Ideas site that the new Fibrehoods areas are going to have the Vumatel ISP options right from the get go. Since Fibrehoods is now owned by Vuma. I believe this will include the current Northriding/Bellairs roll-out.

Is there any information that contradicts this?

The ISPs are still limited to the fibrehoods providers at this stage, while the Vumatel pricing will apply. After speaking to a few guys in Vumatel, I was told that Vumatels full block of ISPs will eventually be available to all Fibrehood customers ( +/- 6 months)

I chatted to Initio the other who said they were aiming for a June switch on for my complex (Bellairs View)

I got a mail today though, says if all goes well it'd be 2 to 3 weeks ...
