Fibre : Bellairs, Northriding ?

I think the problem in North Riding is that many of the residents have no idea what Fibre is and its benefits.
And there are no home owners associations etc to address people collectively.

152 to go...keep pushing guys. Speak to neighbors, get your 5y/o's to also express an interest :p

Telkom is handing out flyers and has a stand in Bellairs Mall advertising Fibre. Does this mean that we can expect fibre anytime soon?

I saw the banner this morning but i went out to look for the stand and i could not see anything.
Its a good sign at very least.

someone please post a pic of the flyer if you can, i would like to see what they offering

I spoke to them. The banner says fiber but the were hawking LTE. I asked when Telkom expect to lay fiber but all i got was middle 2017. My money is on VUMATEL to reach the goal first and lay down some infrastructure. I brought it up at our AGM, and will be following up with the trustees to get people to go sign up. At the risk of being cynical, I'd rather take my chances with VUMA than Telkom.

AHHH, thanks.

Spoke to the people at the stand at Bellairs Mall on Sunday, the blithering idiots were selling Fibre for Sharonlea and Olivedale. I did point out that it was pretty stupid to hand out flyers saying "Fibre...Now in your area" where there is no fibre or plans to rollout but there is no measure to Telkom's idiocy. I have attached the flyers if anyone cares to see...

Furthermore, how does Vumatel determine if there is enough interest in fibre before rolling out? Considering the density of complexes in the area I would think that they would get far more subscribers per km of fibre than what they would get in an area like Linden (Which was rolled out recently).

VUMA uses census data to determine how many families stay in an area. they then use that number, and require roughly a third of the people to sign up, from what I rememeber

The last message I received from Vuma indicated that they would be canvasing North Riding for Fibre during November. But I really havent seen much. I will try and can get more info.

Vumatel approached my sisters estate on 24th November. She's in north riding, so they definitely on their way.

"Dear Resident
Vumatel are going to be rolling out their fibre infrastructure in our area soon and have approached us wanting approval to run fibre into the Estate."

Does anyone have an idea of the cost implication to the estate it self if Vuma deploys into the estate?

Yip i can confirm Vumatel will be rolling out in our area early next year. i hope we see some work by Feb already.

That is fantastic news as their website still shows we need 118 signups. Do you have it on good authority, or perhaps a weblink?

Not good authority, but a Vumatel guy was at our complex (close to Bellairs Shopping center) to get trustee info. He told me they are planning to start the whole area early next year. Northriding and all around it. But he wouldn't say which area they would start with, or give any definite dates. :(

87% of target reached
91 more sign-ups needed to qualify

:)

Saw some guys today, laying cable down Bellaires just outside my estate (Carriesbrooke). It was a large reel of green fibre looking cable, so lets hold thumbs. It also mentioned on the side of the reel the words 'telecom' and 'infrastructure' - Cant confirm details as I was so busy jumping up and down in the car I forgot to get a photo.
