I applied for FTTH through WebAfrica and yesterday (Sunday) a very friendly and competent technician (Edmond) from OpenServe came around and we pulled the fibre cable through from the box in the townhouse complex through to my kitchen counter where the telephone jack comes out of the wall.

Everything was great and he left - job well done.

The only problem was that its not a good idea to leave all this equipment on the kitchen counter-top (I have 2 kids and stuff gets messed on the counter a lot), so I got a handyman in to put up some shelves so I could put kitchen stuff on the top and mount the fibre thingy and router underneath the shelf so nothing gets spilled on it and its out of the way...

The problem is that it appears that the yellow fibre cable from the box to the fibre-thingy may have been compromised as the green POWER and PON lights have now changed to a green POWER and flashing red LOS light.

WebAfrica is going to call me in the next 24-48 hours to arrange for the router to be installed, but if anyone has advice that would be appreciated.

Also, can someone please tell me what the technical name for the fibre-thingy is?

Call WebAfrica to confirm that the connection is live possibly or wait for the tech to arrive he should be able to make a call on it.

Can't see the other end, if it has same connector on both ends it is a Single Mode APC SC - APC SC Simplex Fiber patch lead.
Connector type is SC, Green indicates Angled.

Also: The one in picture appears to be supplied by Dartcom
