I'm in Carob Tree, probably next to you (corner of Wekker and Jozini). I've now contacted Pretor to find out if they know anything. I actually have no idea where to start :-|

No idea - they just finished up on my side (where Wekker ends in Jozini street). Hopefully soon!

I am also at the top of Wekker/Jozini and noticed Hauwei installing there last week. Any idea when it will be available?

Not a clue! Hopefully we'll have some information soon!

I managed to get hold of Telkom Yesterday - actually on the first attempt got through to the correct department. PM me your Body Corporate contact details - should be getting a call today with regards to Feedback from them. Can Add your Body Corporate details in order to get FTTH installed in your complex as well, as I am right next door.

Already notified our Body Corporate and Pretor about this whole situation. So hopefully they can expedite the installation as well.

Ha, I used to live there as well!

But I moved 2 months ago to a non-fibrehood

Frogfoot is planned though so hopefully not too long to wait.

Hi All

I'm in Plumbago, in Wekker road across the entrance to Woolworths/Checkers.
Is it a a case of if you have ADSL that you will be able to get fiber as they can use the current infrastructure to pull in the fiber cables where the copper is?
I have searched everywhere for Hauwai/Telkom fiber partnership to see if I can get updates on the progress of the installation.

Depends - the body corporate will probably still need to approve. And, if the current infrastructure has really sharp bends it can't be used (according to Telkom tech I spoke to a while back).

I live in Hoyt Crescent and I've spent a Saturday morning (about 2 weeks ago) helping the Huawai guys to get access to all the houses directly connected to mine so that they could secure the 48 fiber lines to the poles. I was hoping once that was done that the install phase would be closer but I have not seen anyone laying new cables in the last 2 weeks and it is still not available online.
Not sure what else needs to happen behind the scenes but I know that once the neighborhood is finally read I can only then get Telkom to get the fibre actually into my house. And then who knows how long the wait will be for the actual activation.

OK so that was just FYI. What I want to know is that on the Webafrica site the say they are partnering with a few providers to allow for more coverage and you can select one to see what offers they have. How do you or I know which of those providers are the ones that actually did the fiber providing in our area? I know it was Huawai on behalf of Telkom but Telkom is not an option on the website.

I saw a guy splicing fibre on the corner of Hoyt and Bolo 2 weeks ago and asked if he knew anything regarding the lead times. He said it should take about another month or so before the area is done. So I figure maybe end of July.

None of the companies involved are at all interested in giving lead times. Its a hope for the best situation.
Its been :Heads up! Fibre is coming to your area soon." for several months now. So if you wondered what "soon" meant...

They (Huawei) are very busy in Witdoring Ave, see them digging and installing large amounts of cable all over the street.

I live in Moreleta Village (boomed area between Blouhaak, Hans Strydom and Rubenstein). They have now pulled the fibre cable up to the pole on the edge of my stand.

I spoke to the guy working on the Telkom box to find out what are the lead times. He says that those are the "backbone" cables, there will be another team that actually pulls the fibre into your home.

So hopefully this will happen soon - but who knows how long "soon" will be.

So frustrating - but at least I can SEE my fibre already. Hahaha!!

Slightly OT... but I've seen Telkom (I think) digging all the way along Furrow road in Equestria for the last few days. Does anyone know if this is the Fibre rollout?

I'm sure its not that people don't want to answer you but this thread is only really glanced at by people from Moreleta. Try an Equestria thread or create one if there isn't one.
As a guess though, Telkom only really trench for new fiber installations these days. Fixing old wires are low on their priority list.

They are pulling Fibre in Jacques street now, struggling because of the blocked/broken pipes but they are progressing.
They say it is Fibre and it is long yellow cable, so hoping fo the best.

Fibre in "The Wilds Estate" (across Woodhill College) was switched on last week. My brother-in-law shared some speed test results with me which made me depressed still being on 10meg line here in Moreleta Park. Hopefully it will be before November!!
