Hi

Does anyone know how and where I can petition for fibre rollout in Moreleta Park (Pretoria)?

I see DFA has a live network in the area, but there are no services yet :(

http://www.dfafrica.co.za/coverage/

I want fibre!

Edit:

I think if enough of us petition with the Lynnwood Fibre Initiative, they could expand that way over the DFA network available:

http://www.lynnwoodfibre.com/

Please take the survey if you're in Moreleta Park

Maybe we should start our own Moreleta Fibre Initiative? Like the one rolled out in Constantia?

I think we should...

I did the survey for the Lynnwood one, but made my address the Moreleta Park address :D

You are more than welcome to complete the Lynnwood Fibre Initiative survey if you reside within Pretoria East / Tshwane East. Frogfoot is ultimately in charge of where to roll out. What FF is looking for is representation and presence in the community. So if you can get a bunch of sign ups (through your own imitative or the lynnwood one), and gather the support of the Ward Councillor and other community organizations in Moreleta Park, then you will be high on their priority list. Moreleta Park is a very nice suburb and should make financial sense to them. That being said, their current commitment to the LFI is huge and they are aiming to roll out to 26k homes in the next 18 months in our existing areas (which is a huge endeavour). My guess is they will only be able to start with Moreleta Park after they completed most of the existing areas.

I think your best bet is to collect the community support as fast as you can.

Let me know if you have any questions or require assistance.

It looks as if fibre cables are being laid in Witdoring street today - does anyone know anything about this? Yesterday I saw them in De Villebois with what looked like a Huawei sign on a movable board.

Today they are at c/o Paul and Timbavati - just infront of The Orchard complex. I asked the guys and the say it's Telkom Fibre. Here's a pic:

I wonder how they'll get fibre into a complex. I live in Pin Oak. Holding thumbs it will be possible.

On the Telkom coverage map; it shows that Moreleta Park is a fibre rollout area.

It is also going down Lance Tree, Leadwood, and Lucky Bean. Promising indeed. Now to figure out where to place the order.

Yay. They might also be upgrading the street boxes to the MSANs that support VDSL - that will also be great. Anyone interested that lives in a complex?

Indeed yes! I also wonder how long it will take after the cable installation is completed before the service becomes available?

Does anyone know how the physical installation works at your house? I assume they have to lay a cable from the main cable into your property or what? And must main cable physically run in front of your property? I am 2 houses up from Witdoring street in Christaller street. Currently I only see them in Witdoring - not in my street. :(

Do you guys know what the latest is regarding Fibre in Moreleta Park? I live in Timbavati and it doesn't seem like there is coverage yet. Has anyone done the installation yet?

So close but yet so far! Feel like a child again, can't wait. I am in Milligal Street.

Similar to any current installation. Only new thing would be the Ethernet-Fiber Converter (small box) that enable connections of UTP copper-based ethernet equipment over a fiber optic link. Technician will provide everything though.

Telkom's Call Centres obviusly know nothing about anything. So guess we will just havta wait. Luckily Whipstick Crescent is covered, so upgrading from my 6mb line is not the end of the road, i once thought it would be.

I wonder how they get it right to find our how long until they finish and activate the fiber in a area. Must be a good guess.

In Mooikloof ridge estate, also same date, but check their website now you will find the date has changed, its like keeping a 3 month gap, everyday you check the date has moved up by one day.

Any new updates? Looking through the window at the newly installed fibre cables wondering when Telkom will start implementing them. Huawei was quite fast with the installations, maybe Telkom should get them to install the lines to the houses as well.

Any news is good news! I'm in Carob Tree, way off in Jozini street where Wekker ends. Also saw the guys doing the installations and was wondering what's going on. I did see my ADSL suddenly synchronizing at 10Mbit with a good S/N instead of 8Mbit, not sure if that's related though.

I see on the Webafrica site that fibre connection is due in the next three months at my address. I expect that is a guestimate but at least its something. Most of my friends just get the "sorry its not available in your area" message when they use it.

It still gives the option to choose your provider but I suspect that we might not have much of a choice and would need to go with whoever installed the fibre to our area.
I'm not keen on a 2 year contract with Telkom but if it works it works.

Wont complain to much because 2 years ago I would not have thought that fibre would be an option before 2020.

Anyone in Moreleta got a fibre connection yet? If so let us know the details please.
