Fibre internet in Gauteng on Openserve (Telkom) network

My internet speed on TelkomInternet via Openserve in the Hyde Park area has gone to **** in the last week or so:

This is 40Mbps FTTH. It looks like the downstream is stuffed. Some days I'm closer to 40 than others, but been below 5 most days. I'm thinking there may be GPON congestion. Anyone else experiencing?

Having the same problem in Centurion with 100Mbps at Crystalweb on Opense

Yip me in Faerie Glen Pretoria. Ping 64 , D/load 4.5-5.4 and upload 8.5 this on a Telkom fibre 20Mbps and when I use my Afrihost account it's correct being Ping 6, D/load 18.85 and upload 8.5

Saw some half-speed (20/20) performance on my 40/20 Openserve/WebAfrica connection (also Faerie Glen, Pretoria) earlier this evening, but seems OK now:

One word,

"Contension"

In my opinion
Telkom is selling these fibres at 25:1 or 50:1 I suspect and also that it is like ADSL a "best effort service". Believe me, if you sign an SLA for a certain speed, you will pay at least 10 times your current bill.

Not an excuse. Telkom needs to add more capacity.

Things have picked up tonight:

I am still confused what Telkom / Openserve does when they "upgrade" your ADSL service to a Fibre one - can someone answer the following questions as Telkom don't give me straight answers. Questions relate to a Telkom network and ISP service.

1. Telkom have indicated that you currently get the normal handset telephone service "for free" ( no line rental ) if you take out a fiber package with them - now does one's old analog phone work on this service or do you need a new VOIP phone handset
2. What happens to the value added weekender package - do you still get this as an option
3. If analog phone service is still provided is this via the existing copper cable or via a port on the ONT
4. Can one connect an analog burglar alarm system to this port as well. Currently have one that connects to ADT
5. Do Openserve still provide this analog service if you decide to go to another ISP or request another ISP from the start of the fibre service?

Yes, you keep your number and it works as it always did, there is no line rental

I have no idea

243,334.03 / 12 = 20,277.8358 MB/MONTH

usage about 20 GB / MONTH.

Currently on 40 GB Data + 2 Mbps OPENSERVE TELKOM FIBRE R 439 PM, going to try and upgrade to the 10 Mbps Deal as the 2 Mbps is just too slow, any other good deals ?

I wonder how
I wonder why
Yesterday you told me 'bout the blue blue sky
And all that I can see is just a yellow lemon-tree
I'm turning my head up and down
I'm turning turning turning turning turning around
And all that I can see is just another lemon-tree

Did anyone else in the gated community get a letter of new prices? Im very very happy with Telkoms new 100mbps/50mbps prices, 43% drop in price.
