Hi Guys, Fibre noob here.

MetroFibre is finishing up the network rollout in my area and I have preordered with WebAfrica.

Quick question:

Do you get a specific Fibre router (like ADSL/LTE router) or is it a normal WiFi router? I am not happy with the WA free router, would like to get something else (I also require 2 as I have a network setup joining two buildings).

I am just a bit unsure, how this configuration works... i.e. what is a TP point, what plugs into it, what from there. etc.

Woo shem "preordered with WebAfrica" - may the force be with you

Fibre is terminated into an ONT device which then connects into a Router. As long as that router has a WAN ethernet port is can be used for Fibre and as long as it supports either DHCP or PPPOE provisioning from the fibre provider - im not sure what Metrofibre use

Depending on the package you may need a router with gigabit ports, e.g. if you ordered a 200Mbps link. The standard devices given out do both the routing as well as working as Wifi access points.

Thanks for the info.

It's a little clearer now. I ordered 100mbps.

Hmmm. Should I go with anyone else? You don't seem to think WA is a good idea

Seems like a hit and a miss with all ISPs these days.

Just check the Webafrica feedback threads started by many users here. They lure you in with price but service is... Well.... Not there

CISP, Afrihost, Websquad, Rocketnet, Mind the Speed

Thanks, I will check it out.

Afrihost is my go-to ISP, has been for years for hosting, mobile data, ADSL... never any issues.

They are letting me down on Metrofibre though, they are way more expensive than others, not sure why - they are usually leaders in price? @AfriFella @AfriGuy when are you fixing your MetroFibre offers?

hehe yeah, WebAfrica is only an option if you're really pinching money and have the physical capacity to swallow three Panado's a day :D

Definitely pick from that list above, especially Afrihost and Cool Ideas and you should have a great time

I don't really pinch money. I just don't understand the high price from Afrihost when they are usually the front runners.

I have always been happy with them.

yea you're definitely right, WebAfrica shouldn't be seen as a pinching / last ditch resort option, and I have hope the pricing continues to be competitive with the FNO's and whatnot :/. For the time-being the higher pricing gets the better service

Morning,

Unfortunately I'm not aware of any MFN prices changes yet. MFN is a bit expensive. If make any changes we will definitely let everyone know.

BOOOOOOOOO, c'mon. Other SP's can do it, so it's possible. You usually lead with this, not follow? What's going on? These are other ISP Prices for 100/100 MFN Fibre:

Personally, I have been with Cool Ideas since fibre was rolled out in my neighborhood. I have had no issues, I would consider them, even if they are a little more expensive.
Billing = Good
Support = Good
Service = Good

Many of my friends have hopped from ISP to ISP like the Easter Bunny and are still not satisfied :D

Thanks... but they do not service my area, spoke with them this morning :(

You do know Afrihost (or any other ISP) has no say in what the FNOs charge for their service, don't you?
