That's an ADSL modem with router.

You would need a router only.

I am getting the 5mbps free internet option. Will this modem/router work with 123net's fibre?

From what was explained, 123net installs their fibre device ("Modem"). From your side you can plug in a network cable and work from there.
In other words you can use your router as a Wifi access point and 100mbit switch.

I think it was pretty good deal, it came bundled with a range extender for R800
You can definitely use it for something (Wifi/DHCP/other func?). Whether you can establish a PPPOE connection with it, I do not know.

Haha, I'm sure they'll provide a full install service where when they leave your PC is plugged in / on wifi and running. Let's hear what they say :)

When we install our fibre at your home, we will mount a small "network box" to a wall somewhere, with a gigabit ethernet port ready for your network devices. You can use this port to connect directly to a PC, but if you have other devices you want to use then you must connect our network box to either a wired or wireless router. Our network box connects via the router's ethernet WAN / EWAN port. If you want to use gigabit speeds you must make sure your router supports it.

Henry.de.kock is correct about VEdeLange's TRENDnet N300 Wireless ADSL 2+ Modem Router. From what I can see it doesn't have an ethernet WAN port, only standard ethernet ports. You will need a router with an ethernet WAN port.
 
Yes, we provide free "basic" routers for users who sign up for 24 months (100mbit ethernet and 802.11b/g/n). We will also sell these routers direct if users do not want to sign for 24 months. We also have a gigabit ethernet router (with 802.11b/g/n as well) available.

Obviously the best type of wifi router would be one that supports 802.11ac for the fastest performance, but I do recommend you rather use gigabit-ethernet for your gigabit devices rather than trying to achieve gigabit speeds over wifi, as it is very difficult to get gigabit speeds wirelessly, even with 802.11ac (see http://www.zdnet.com/article/gigabit-wi-fi-802-11ac-is-here-five-things-you-need-to-know/).

Thanks for they confirmation. So how many ports does your network box have? And lets say that for instance the max speed my router is capable of is 40mb/s then that is the max I will get even locally (your network locally is 1gbit on all packages?) ? Any eta on a updated website? ;p
 
I have a solution for you peoplez

use a 8 port gigabit switch...and then connect a wireless AP to the switch. this way you will have the ability to connect your pc directly to the LAN and also broadcast your signal over wifi for the phones and tablets.

I believe our network box has one gigabit-ethernet port, but I will have to confirm and get back to you.

To answer your question.. Yes, unfortunately on a router with a theoretical max throughput of 40mb/s all data would be limited to 40mb/s, even though the local data on our paid packages would able to transfer at a gigabit. It would be a bit of a waste to use that router, especially if you were on Gigabit 100 or Gigabit MySpeed (with international > 40mbit). If you were on our Gigabit 10 package it wouldn't be too bad, as international would run at 10mbit, and local would run at 40mbit.

What kind of router are you talking about though? When you say 40mbit, are you referring to a VDSL router? That is different. Your VDSL line may be limited to 40mbit, but that doesn't matter. The ethernet ports would be either 100mbit or even 1 gigabit. Still, if this were the case, you would be fine with your international speeds, and your local would run at 100mbit, worst case scenario. Telkom's Pace VDSL router would be perfect to use, because it has a gigabit EWAN port, 4 gigabit ethernet ports, and 300mbps wifi (don't worry about the VDSL part).

Our website is being updated as we speak. The Gigabit MySpeed feature will be live soon! :D

In theory, yes. But most routers today support 100mbps minimum on LAN. And almost all the newer routers support 1gbps over LAN
