Fibre: Secunda Community

@ alex I explained all this to you this morning in the smoking hut.

I am just going the safe route and getting the free basic internet , and then upgrade when I feel comfy.

Rodger that. I'm going for the megabit 10. Until I see some performance stats on the national gigabit part of the package

DHCP changes when the lease expires

The DHCP changes your local ip address given to the pc by the router indeed. I believe they're referring to the ISP IP address which will stay the same for your internet connection. If you set up a team speak server for example. The ip will never need to be sent out again every time you restart the router.

Yeah I know ... lol

Okay I can clearly see you are one of those people ,moving along.

@Henry you don't need to buy a special routers for fibre, there will be a "box" installed at your home with a lan port which you connect to a router or a switch/hub. The only thing you might want to look out for in your router and service you are buying is that if you want to utilise your 1 gig local only connection is that your route or switch needs to have a 1 gig local network card , if you want to use wifi with the 1 gig fibre line you are going to pay a lot for a wifi router with 1 gig wfi capability.

I know you dont need special routers, but I am waiting for 123net to get back to me on the routers they are using and thought I could in the meantime compare other routers. I have a billion 7300n modem/router ( can convert one port to an e-wan port)but doubt it will let me utilise the 1gbps local speed. It will do fine for 20mbps but that is it. Was just curious on the pricing of 1gbps routers.

Yeah, but they should take all necessary precautions in their data center, that's the part I was looking for and couldn't find.
GPON should be encrypted in any case so even non secure protocols can't just be eavesdropped upon. I don't know if they do this but if they don't it would be like sharing a pc with hundreds of other people. Not something I would be comfortable to do.

I don't think they will force you to. I think they will only do this if you fail to pay on time fairly often.
That is the concern. Under the CPA I can cancel a contract if the service doesn't perform satisfactorily but with this clause they can get hold of my bank details and still bill me and it would all be legal. It's very one sided.

That blocks state excactly what their website stated and that they said all along. It couldnt be more clear. 24 month contract, no construction fee. 12 month contract, 1500 construction fee. And month to month will be 3600 construction fee. The part that confuses you is the description that would have been better either in the front or the back and not in the middle breaking up the blocks.
No it's not. Their website says R3600 for the 5/1 option. There's no mention that it applies when you take any of the other options.

@Swa. Cancel your internet buddy, withdraw all your money from the bank and store it somewhere only you can access. The horror stories that could be told about personal computers being hacked and bank accounts being emptied is more horible then the stories of deposits that goes off wrongly. Why are you always looking for negative **** to bicker on about. Stop visiting the site and remove that 123fibre rollout from your signature cause you cant say anything good about them so I dont know how you could win them sign ups for your area. More like scaring the people away.
Just stfu bud. I don't know what your issue is with me. I point out the same issues others are pointing out but you seem to take it as a vendetta against a company.

2: 3.9 - "If the Subscriber terminates this Agreement prior to the expiration of the Initial Period or any Renewal Period for any purpose other than expressly provided for in this Agreement, the Subscriber will be liable for all amounts due to 123Net until the date of termination and 123Net shall be entitled (unless the Subscriber is entitled to terminate the Agreement without penalty in accordance with the provisions of the CPA, if applicable), to a cancellation / early settlement fee, provided that where the Subscriber is a natural person, 123Net shall restrict such cancellation/early settlement fee to a reasonable fee determined to be in accordance with the guidelines set out in the CPA and, if applicable, the CPA Regulations."
What was said in the meeting in Secunda is that you can cancel at any time, but then you will be liable for the construction fee only, nothing was mentioned about having to pay until the end of the contract? In other words, people were motivated to go for the 2 year contract so as to waive the construction fee, but now you are being punished for doing that if you decide to cancel!
Yup that was the impression. I still say contracts like that of Telkom are the best. If you cancel your service you only pay for the device/installation. Or as I said have everyone pay the installation but if you continue using the service for 12-24 months then deduct it in the last months' payments.

3: 4.3 - "Any change to the pricing of the Service is subject to prior written agreement between the parties of at least 1 (one) calendar month prior to the effective date of such change. In the event that no agreement can be reached in this regard then 123Net reserves the right to unilaterally increase it pricing by an amount in line with reasonable industry standards, alternatively the Subscriber is entitled to provide 30 (thirty) Days written notice of its intention to terminate this Agreement."
I would like a statement added there "guaranteed for at least 24 months (or 12 months) not to change", because that statement as it is, is a little ominous. You are talking about increasing costs before we have even started, and the Free Basic Internet package is guaranteed for 24 months?
This is something I'm not really concerned about as fibre prices are coming down so they'll have to continue decreasing prices or provide more value/faster connections.

Swa you're starting to troll again.. come on man. You've been through this before. I know you enjoy trolling the forums. But we're trying to be constructive. Raising concerns and such. These attacks on each other are pointless

I don't see any trolling... it's all on-point/valid.

Agreed, section 4.3 I was concerned and then realized that the prices for fiber/internet access don't really go up.

Many types of trolling out there. This one uses tactical disagreement to invoke annoyance among others.

It works rather well when you disagree and correct or try to manage the perspective of others

Exactly what I've been doing. Funny you see me as trolling and not Henry. Just bugger off if you can't be constructive.

Says the one who has never been constructive...

This is a forum for the Secunda people and this contract doesnt affect you, your concerns is of no value to us and the contract may change by the time it comes to you. You want to live in a bubble then fine do so, but dont come here and spread doubt about things that doesnt warrant any. You defend telkom as I defend 123net, where I have thousands of people to back me up on how useless telkom is and you have none who could agree and have had a bad experience with 123net. I will support you once 123net becomes as bad as telkom but till then, I will give them the chance they deserve to prove them selves. They are new and hiccups is expected, plus we are the most impatient customers ever so they have to rush every thing just to keep us happy. They have allot to do and I for one thank them and admire them for what they have accomplished so far in such a short timespan. Lets jus agree to disagree.

You are obviously not interested in this service and find problems with nearly everything you see here...that has been made quite clear. so please enligthen us why you're still here?

If you don't like what you see and don't agree with what is on offer why oh why do you keep coming back here and piss people off.

So Instead of further arguing and bickering I've now reached the point where I am adding you to my ignore list.

I'm doing nothing different to the other people on here. You and Alex are the only ones who see that as trolling. Yes the contract may change by the time it comes to me ONLY because I raised the concerns here so well done for affirming what I say. If it didn't I'll change it myself. I don't defend Telkom but I will give the devil its due. I've used Vodacom, MTN, Cell C, and Telkom and I will again if any of them offers me the best deal at the time.

So do like Alex rather and take your drivel somewhere else. Me and the other people in this thread will continue like we were.

I ain't taking sides here but it is a big deal for all of us. We need to remain positive for what it's worth. A contract can be daunting but I'm sure 123Net will deliver on their promises.

Mod note: Please debate issues and leave out the personal remarks, which are totally unnecessary. You folks have a common goal, so rather contribute constructively towards achieving it!
