Fibre: Secunda Community

I heard that they are apparently laying fiber in all the trenches they are digging in secunda. Don't know how true it is or far they are though

Yea saw the trenching, Just have no idea who it is and what their ultimate goal is. Would be nice to know but asking the people working there is just a waste of time. Wish companies would have some advertisement boards and such where they dig, or at least a contact number if some one wants to find out some more info about the happenings.

Does any one have contacts with open serve or Telkom in Secunda who know what is going in with the lines etc. There is a new msan box 750 m from my house on corner of voortrekker and Nelson Mandela and would like to know when it will be active and when I can get ported to it.

You need to know where the box is that you are currently connected to. Maybe you will be lucky and they will port you to the new MSAN but it is a looooong shot if that MSAN werent meant for your area.

Last I heard was told was I was +-3km to exchange but that was before new box was installed. It does not even have a number printed on it.

The exchange distance wont change, it will still be +- 3km, the new boxes only uses fibre to connect to the exchange instead of the copper from the old boxes. You would have to find out from a techie where your box is and if your area would be upgraded. I really believe you will be upgraded soon, since the whole bloomin Secunda is being dug up by some one lying fibre. m best bet is Openserve, but I hope I am wrong.

So I got spammed by SMS that apparently states that Vodacom Fibre is being supplied in my area. However, seems doa, official Vodacom site says my area is not covered.

Decided to open the link on a PC in stead of phone, I got to this page, but it seems to be made for mobile browsing:

https://vcfibre.co.za/fibre/landing/9eae216b-9f96-4e4e-bf16-440936876288

Anybody else can shed some light on this - my guess is still scam.

Well i have spoken to a guy who was busy with fiber. He said that there were apparantly plans for fiber to the home (Voortrekker road area)starting in march. Time will tell. In the mean time i am going the Wifi route. At least i should get the speeds i am paying for (hopefully)

If I may ask, did they say who they are trenching for? I spoke to one guy near 5star spar close to Kruinpark, and he said they are digging for MTN and it is for FTTH, but I emailed MTN for more info and they arent responding. I wish they would just advertise ffs, cant be that difficult.

That's interesting. I assume they will bridge out then to other areas later, since (no offence to anybody living there), voortrekker street is nothing really special, i.e. I thought they would start at the rich areas (green strip etc).

I see Vox is offering Fibre to business for most of Secunda but nothing for Fibre to home.

Maybe there is hope. But for now i am locked in a 6 month contract for wifi.

Yip, hopefully soon will be option for home availability.

Had a look now, my area qualifies for their Bussiness fibre, but R4500 pm for 50mbs connection - ouch!
