Fifa World Cup 2026

These European teams need to rethink player development because the imported players can't hit the goal from the penalty spot.

Wrong. They just needed even more diversity!

You guys are weird bringing your agendas here. Kluivert, Timber and Summerville are all Dutch born players.

What shocks to wake up to. Expected Morocco could surprise but gave Paraguay no chance.

I can't be the only one who absolutely hates the stuttered run ups for penalties? Oh, and the socks that are rolled down to the ankles?
Its dumb... FIFA has made rule changes before for the goalie, so they could do the same for the striker.

The goalie can't muck about while the kicker takes his shot, so why not vice versa.

I also think the penalty shootout is dumb, its just roulette.
They could probably do something better like every 5 minutes each team has to lose a player and then sudden death if a goal is scored.

They could always take penalties the way the MLS did in the 90s. Basically NHL/ice hockey style penalties.

*Note: This was the MLS in the 90s, so the player quality was...questionable. You'd probably see a lot more chipped shots from today's players.

It isn't just roulette. You need minimum 4/5 players that can score a goal at very close range. It is a reasonable test of skill. (The bare minimum, I think.)

If you can't get 4 out of 5 or more at this level you deserve to lose.

Or you can just score the goals in the actual game if you don't want to risk a penalty shoot.

Its unfair on the goalie.

Its unfair on the goalie.

How is it unfair on goalies?? It’s part of their training and practice. I surprisingly find myself agreeing with Rietrot. Penalties are a fundamental skill for all players as well as entertaining for the (neutral) fans.

Disagree. Penalties are part of football.
You have 120 minutes to settled it in a "normal " way . If you can't after that then a test of nerve is a fair way to settle it.

I don't like either of these teams really so I'm struggling to get into the game. But it is good soccer. Both teams attacking, both feel dangerous.

Penalties should be for when the team is being penalised.
