I've noticed that most of the lower ranked teams that made it to the knock-out round, have their goalkeepers to thank.

The FIFA Goalkeeper rankings support this.

Of the top ten ranked keepers, only two are from a top ten team, the others are mostly from teams ranked 20 and above.
