I tested this the other day and couldn't get over how useless it is. At what zoom level is the map correct? If you zoom in, you are placed blocks away, same for zooming out... How do people actually use it to locate their missing phones?

Are there any good alternatives? Has anyone used preyproject.com?

Thanks!

I used it this morning to find my kid's phone. The trick is to track it to the general area and then play the alert sound.

Because the map is broken?

Map's not broken. It takes a while to slowly zero in on the phone but none of these services will find a phone buried under a pile of clothes. That's where the alert comes in

Actually It works very well...when my wife's was stolen - we logged onto her account and said it was lost, once it connected to the internet again, it sent out an email saying where its location was - an exact address in bruma (one of those portugese / indian cell shops) - so clearly it was taken to a shop to get hacked, wiped and resold...

When we cant find our phone, log onto our account and click on lost mode - it beeps until you find it - if its dead well then you pretty stuffed, but that would be the same with any phone.

Find a Crapple Iwannabeaphone :)

Why would you want to find your iPhone :) If it's lost be thankful you a finally rid of it :P
There is a solution, you might not like it, it's called Android.
On a serious note, I only used the android version of Lookout, works brilliantly, and remote locks, or wipes your phone as well. I see there is a ios version aswell

Were you indoors? GPS accuracy, i.e. the ability to connect to satellites in the sky is a key factor to give an accurate location

Nothing to do with being indoors - the map is borked. Maybe it's an East London thing?
Anyone tested it in East London?
I've tried multiple browsers including the iphone browser. I'll post pics but basically:

You start at X,Y
Zoom in x1 - you're now a kilometer or 5 from X,Y

It takes time to get a good lock. The larger the blue circle is the less accurate the GPS fix is.

On a serious note, no need for the iPhone bashing. iOS has had that functionality already built in for years now. Pity it only works if your cell has a data connection. I lost my iPhone 5S in CTN over 2 yrs ago. Some guy turned it on a few weeks back, it got a data connection and it e-mailed me the location. Pity it was in a parking lot in some shopping center. It was able to display a message on the screen telling the new 'owner' to contact me. He didn't...

OK... I think I found the source of the issue. My browsers are all at some other zoom level than 100% on that page for some reason. Ctrl + and Ctrl - seem to influence the zoom. I know I use that on certain pages to maximize horizontal real estate (and i'm probably getting old lol) but I don't recall doing it for that page and AFAIK it's a per url setting that's stored in the browser...
Going to see if I can figure it out - why all my browsers though? Including Edge that I don't touch...

**nope... that's not it. Ctrl 0 resets to default and the default is borked.

True that. I was robbed recently and the ****ers made off with my iPad Air and 12" MacBook. We tracked the iPad and the SAPS/CPF recovered both items a few hours later.

Erm... no kidding lol.
That's not why I'm pressing ctrl + or ctrl - :D
I use that for pages like MyBB forum to get the most of the wide screen.
Here's what my find my iPhone looks like on my PC:

On the browser zoom level, setting different zoom levels gives me different results but none that work.
I'm probably 5-7km from where it's suggesting I am on that map.
What happens on your side if you use Ctrl + and Ctrl - to set browser zoom? Does it still work fine on your side? N.B. Ctrl 0 sets zoom to 100%
