Firefox 40 is here

Something that's always annoyed me about Firefox is that messy bookmarks bar at the top of the screen. I googled it and voila, result: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/hide-bookmarksbar/

You just have to go into Extensions -> Options, to enable it to always hide the bookmarks bar (default is to show it on your launch page and hide it on the tabs, but I don't like clutter so I just suppressed it everywhere).

And has the constant crashing been fixed??
Haven't seen this problem since the days of XP.

Last crashes I experienced (most noticeable on Firefox 'cause it runs 24/7 on my systems) were traced to dodgy RAM, only showed up on memtest after about 2 hours.

That addon is from 2012. I have one bar/panel on top. Holds the address box, forward/back home etc and the addon icons.

You can right click on it and deselect it. Same with all toolbars. Can customise it, by hiding anything (icons incl) you don't like and moving it too.

I moved everything to one bar and omitted what I don't use regularly. At one time even the tabs was on it, but changed it again.

Yeah, I was just using stock Firefox. You should be able to right-click on that stupid bookmarks bar and select "hide", but there was no such option.

If this has been an issue since 2012, shame on Firefox for not making it more intuitive.

Seems fine now. At the time I switched to Chrome last year, crashing was an issue for me.

I'm trying to picture what you're talking about, but I have no idea. What messy bookmarks bar? It's not visible by default, when it is visible you can put whatever you want on it and even the button to view your bookmarks can be hidden. I'm not sure if there is a launch page, because I change my homepage to Google without even thinking once I've installed a browser. Even the new tab page has an option to appear blank.

Update 40.0.2 is here for a few days now. It blocks Flash by default everywhere.... hopefully.
