Firefox gaining ground

Ouch. Don't worry, it will pick up. We all know it will, once Windows 7 comes out. Or Ibex.
Got a friend that's a web developer and his site stats (for those he does on the side) is roughly 70% IE, 20% FF and the rest Opera, etc.

MyBroadband’s statistics are far closer to W3Schools. According to the latest visitor statistics 41% of users access MyBroadband using Firefox, closing in on Internet Explorer’s 51%. Opera with 4.26% and Safari with 2.65% are also showing some growth.

/me in the 4.26%:D

I wonder how the iPhone and iPod Touch will affect browser stats because these devices use mobile Safari. Wonder if it will increase Safari's market share?

mmmmmmm... Safari sucks!!! or IMO.. FF all the way.. used to be an Opera Fan until i realised FF is just the best <3

Net Applications gives Internet Explorer a big lead over Firefox. According to the company’s browser market share information, IE is used by 76% of Internet users, followed by Firefox with 16.8% and Safari with 5.6%.

This should probably have read:

Network Applications gives Internet Explorer a big lead over Firefox. According to the company’s browser market share information, IE is used by 76% of Intranet users, followed by Firefox with 16.8% and Safari with 5.6%.

otherwise it'd just be contradicting the stats given before that. Anyhow, go web standards! I don't really care which browser prevails, but I do think choice and competition is a good thing - especially when the competition is greater standards compliance. IE6 was and remains the bane of every web developer's life...
Interestingly, IE8 Beta 1 gets further on the latest ACID3 test than FF3.

The only thing I agree with is that FireFox 3 was seriously overhyped. I tried it, and left it after 2 weeks. I'm sticking to Avant Browser, with a market share so small it's not even mentioned. Now that's elite! :p

Would you like one of us to show you how to actually use a web browser? ;)

It amazes me that 51% of the people on this forum still access it without using a browser...

Snobbery will get you nowhere. I found Firefox annoying slow after using Avant Browser. I don't doubt that Firefox is better than IE, and probably Safari (or at least Safari on a PC), but I did not see any features that made it stand out above Avant. On my #1 criterion (speed), at least, it was worse. Please, list what makes it great for you. The only thing I see that makes it special is the plugins.

Have you even tried the latest version of Avant, mister high-and-mighty?

(PS: This post in meant to be taken tongue-in-cheek. Stupid internet and it's stupid lack of tone. :D)

I tried it years ago... I do admit IE seems to at least start up faster... but on loading pages there is no way it is faster than Firefox. And yes... all the add-ons are what attracts me.

See these posts of mine here...

Avant is just a front-end for IE... Firefox also allows me to view pages in IE when I need to.... via the IE View Add-in... so I can have the best of both worlds. :)

I also have Opera loaded for when I need it.... I did not like Safari at all.

Not too great:

Windows - 90.46%
Macintosh - 3.99%
Linux - 3.32%

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008061015 Firefox/3.0

damn.. I really am part of MyAdsl's smallest minority it seems :(
Brb, going through an emo moment here. It's enough to make me install windows!

I know it's just a front for IE and not a real browser, but I noticed a visual difference in loading time. I'd do a timing test, if not for stupid ADSL latency at the moment. Avant has come a long way.

Nevertheless, not needing any plugins, my Firefox 3 experience was underwhelming, and not enough to keep me on it.
