Firefox gaining ground

Jeesh, we get a lot of these stupid stats articles (8 Firefox articles in the last month and a half alone). Almost every week we hear the same thing over and over. Firefox gaining ground. Apple gaining ground. Linux gaining ground. WII leading the console race. We get it, everyone here is very anti MS, brilliant, so with that out the way, give us some real news or at least cut these types of articles down to once a month so we can see if the progress is substantial or not.

Don't do it sir. Please step back from the disk. Your family loves you. There is no need to do anything you may regret later.

I don't even own a winders disk anymore :D

cept if you count the windows3.11 disks that i still have

The only thing I agree with is that FireFox 3 was seriously overhyped. I tried it, and left it after 2 weeks. I'm sticking to Avant Browser, with a market share so small it's not even mentioned. Now that's elite! :p

I think tonite i'm gonna code my own browser - the browser to beat all browsers! No, seriously!

Now THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is Elite!

I happen to like these articles. I would like to see even more of them.
It is high time M$ and their useless products got show up for what they are - overpriced bugfests.

Like I said. I think we have clearly established the mindset of this site. However the content is going stale. Sure you cant have crappy stats thrown at you to make you feel good about your choices, etc. But nothing could be further from informative.

There are many trends out there that need tracking apart from making Mr Moederloos feel good about himself.

Couple of suggestions:
  • What must someone do to get into this industry
  • What tracks are in the industry.
  • What options are out there for mobile development.
  • Why browsers matter
  • Why the new iPhone requires you to use your media play to sync your contacts and appointments and how you can get around it.
  • Why Apple put MS products on the iPhone.
  • What is the REAL cost in migrating to Linux.

Jeesh you can go on and on. All are informative and actually useful.

Off you go then and write an article....
Seeing as how people read these articles you complain about (and it seems you are alone in this complaint), could it be that *you* are the problem here?

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008061015 Firefox/3.0

Must be one of the Elite as well! :D:D:D

I also like cheese! :p

So people can express opinions so long as they agree with yours?
And if it were my job, then yes I would go and write articles, however it is not my job.
You lot have mob mentality. No balls to have a real opinion.

If you were honestly objective you would be singing a different tune. Everything has strong points and weak points.
But instead of counting things on their individual merits you apply black and white mentality. It is the brainless easy option.

All I am saying is this site is saturated with articles on Firefox stats. Diversify a little.
And before you jump up and down and get your knickers in a knot, I use Firefox. It is great, but I am getting bored of reading articles about it.

What an amazing comment from the poster who started this whole bun fight by referring to the stats as "stupid".

Go practice what you preach, preferably somewhere else.

I Agree with SlappY. For the most part all these articles on FF are factless, pointless and plain boring.

Browser wars are boring. Lets get something worthwhile to fight about.

But just to add my 5c

How the hell do you guys get stats on corporate intranet browser usage ? A thumbsuck at best, as is reflected in the other stats.

Personaly I don't know anybody that uses FF. A friend tried it once and vowed never to repeat his mistake. I tried it for 5 minutes and after i saw how much bandwidth this hog was stealing, I gave it the good old wipe without bothering to configure it properly.

I'll venture that your average FF user is someone who re-loads his entire operating system on a monthly basis because they like to load any old piece of software on thier machines whether they need to or not.

When looking at these stats one must bare in mind the type of audiance a website attracts.

You'll find that in the case of any techie orientated site like w3schools or mybroadband that the audiance is usually technically minded and leans towards using technologies like FireFox.

Non-technical websites (i.e. food or general news etc) tend to have a higher % of their audiance being non-techincal and perfer using pre-installed programs like IE over trying to figure out how to install software like FireFox.

I'd like to be able to look at some kind of compilation of the stats from a mix of differant types of websites, but have yet to come across one like it.
