Firefox turns 4, targets mobile

I seem to have an issue with Firefox (2 or 3) as well as IE7 consuming a lot of my CPU/system resources. I might have thought it was my crappy old AMD 2600+ processor, but the same happens on my newish Core2Duo notebook. Slows down the entire machine when this happens. Occurs daily, without fail. Have to close down or kill the browser in question completely when this happens if I don't want to start tearing my hair out.

Anyone else getting this? I hope this isn't too off-topic :$

Opera also comes packed with a lot of built in features like mouse gestures and torrent downloads that are only available on FireFox with extensions. Plus FireFox is a few MB bigger than Opera.

FireFox is good, but it is nowhere near as innovative and slick as Opera.

Unlike the old Netscape browser, Firefox was stripped of all the excess options and promised to be lean and mean.

If you want the features, you can get them as extensions, they're NOT supposed to be in there by default as far as FF is concerned.

From the above I would assume you are experienceing memory leaks. When the system slows down have you checked the memory usage at the time under your task manager?

Sure, it could be a memory leak, but what is weird is that it happens on 2 different machines, 2 different versions of WinXP, 2 different browsers! Will keep an eye on and report back here and maybe someone brighter than me can shed light on it :)

Just closed FF3 now, and the memory usage was at 300MB. Not sure if that is excessive or not. On my PC, I only have 1GB of RAM but on my notebook I have 2GB.
