Fireplace advice

I guess it depends how much you want to pay per piece.

Here are my notes (for myself really).

  • Firewood Cape Town
    Firewood Cape Town Facebook
Terrible service, most expensive pricing, FB reviews reveal terrible wood. I have avoided them after speaking to them on Whatsapp. Super expensive too.
  • The Wood Gurus
Great service, average pricing, good wood but not perfectly seasoned, need to buy years in advance
  • Nambibian Hard Wood
Decent enough service, average pricing, great wood, was able to immediately use the bluegum bagged wood in the fireplace. Best wood supplied for usability in my opinion.
  • GoodWood On Milton
    GoodWoodOnMilton - Laurencia WhatsApp
Awesome people, I want to use them but I don't like the wood I received.

My preferred provider for massive bulk is The Wood Gurus. Not the cheapest price, but if you lucky you can order 5k pieces. You can go to this link for their 1000 pieces wattle. Add 5 to your cart and you good to go if you dropping 10k on wood.

For quality, I really prefer Namibian hardwood. Absolutely best provider if you want perfect blue gum and ordering at the start of winter. I literally didn't have to try to get these pieces to take light, and they were nice and clean.

Hi all, you are welcome to also checkout Cape Town Firewood - www.capetownfirewood.co.za

Thanks bru, that's purely a sideline hustle whatsapp so I don't mind stalkers. As long as they going to buy something

Hi all, I moved into a house with a fireplace and am installing a small 5kw glass front fireplace this weekend.
My question is what sort of wood should I be looking for?
I see blue gum, red gum and Namibian hardwoods recommended amongst others.
Hardwoods seem significantly more expensive but they also burn longer and hotter so maybe the cost balances out?
Some say hardwood constantly could damage the fireplace from too much heat for too long?
I'd appreciate any thoughts to help inform me of the best route.
Thanks
As an aside I tend to use Kameeldoring when braaing.

Blue gum, red gum and wattle is nice, I will only add a small piece of hardwood if its really really cold. NEVER use something like pine or any wood with sap inside, also dont clean the glass with chemicals.

Also, dont be like drunk me and try and feel if the flue is hot, it is.

Had our Morsø 1630 serviced and some parts replaced, mainly the top frame and front plate, so we are ready for winter as soon as I can do an initial slow burn in  Do not ask me how much it costs to replace parts on a Morsø because if you have to ask then I have to cry, again.

Please do not cry.
How much?

I'm in the processes of buying one. I just bought an aircon, but I want to install a fireplace just in case I have no power. The winter in my area is brutal.

Current purchase price of a Morsø 1630 is around R50k, can find it for slightly cheaper at some places from doing a bit of Googling. As for servicing, depending on what needs to be done it will range from around R1500 for a clean and flue sweep, and then goes up depending on whether things like vermiculite bricks, fibreglass rope, etc. need to be replaced. This last service/repair that we had done was a little under R22k with the bulk of the costs being the replacement top frame and front plate but included new vermiculite bricks, new fibreglass rope, new smokebox, removal and reinstallation of the fireplace, flue sweep, etc, etc.

:crying:

I saw the price and no availability for my Morso 1510, so I just made a new one from 10mm steel plate. Two winters on and it's working fine.

The steel plate even stands the heat from burning anthracite:
