Vote counting has begun and the first results were in from South Africa's fifth democratic election on Wednesday, IEC chairwoman Pansy Tlakula said.

"We have our first result in. It is from Umzimvubu in Mount Ayliff in the Eastern Cape."

There were 148 votes for the ANC, five for the EFF, three for the DA, two for the UDM, and one each for the APC and PAC. The numbers were displayed on the results board at the Electoral Commission of SA's centre in Pretoria.

Every election will be the same. The DA will do well initially then the huge number of township voting stations come in last and the ANC has it's 60%. At least this year from a neutral observers point of view it will be interesting

Its like buying a lotto ticket once every four years. You wake up the next day hoping you're in the money, only to find out you did not even come close.

By 11:00 and 13:00 tomorrow everyone will say how well the DA is doing. After lunch the sheep center results will come in.

ANC must just not take the Cape from the DA or force the DA into a coalition. The EFF will be an amusing spanner in the works.

The News24 Election App is quite cool with results, DA winning WC and NC... for the time being.

Early national election results from the Electoral Commission of SA (IEC) in Pretoria show that the African National Congress had 1414 votes by 11.10pm on Wednesday.

The Democratic Alliance had 588 votes, the United Democratic Movement 93 votes, the Freedom Front Plus had 73 votes and the Economic Freedom Fighters had 65 votes.

The National Freedom Party had 49 votes, the Pan Africanist Congress had 28 votes, the African Christian Democratic Party had 16 votes and Congress of the People had 19 votes.

The national and provincial results would be updated through the night.

Know its still early days but seems Agang is not doing that well, on only 0.07% currently

Not a single vote thus far for KISS..... seems nobody wants to keep it simple :p
Those tiny parties are weird. They won't get any seat in parliament. Not sure why the compete in the first place

After the final results I bet you Mamphela Ramphele will have wished she joined the DA and given Zille a french kiss.

Actually kinda weird how it looks like the DA are covering more of South Africa but only have 1/3 of the number of votes. Those areas must be pretty sparse >.<

Anyone else think there could be a massive swing in the votes? There has been a massive amount of young voters registering compared to previous years and very low turn out in Limpopo, I guess instead of spoiling their ballot they just didn't turn up. It could mean a large number of votes out of ANC hands.
