First election results in

Anyone else think there could be a massive swing in the votes? There has been a massive amount of young voters registering compared to previous years and very low turn out in Limpopo, I guess instead of spoiling their ballot they just didn't turn up. It could mean a large number of votes out of ANC hands.

Northern Cape is looking like quite promising at the moment :)

Inheritance

The party, which really is a one-woman-show, based in Heidelberg in Gauteng, has fought every election, albeit unsuccessfully, since 1994.

Now its founding (and only) member, Claire Gaiford, says she is prepared to give it one last bash before calling it quits on her political aspirations.

The reason was that KISS’s registration to participate in every election had eaten away at the nest egg she inherited from her mother, and her family were becoming agitated, she said.

This year, parties have been charged a deposit of R150 000 to enter the national elections and R40 000 per province.

This will be refunded if they win a seat in Parliament or the legislature which each require 65 000 votes. The KISS party has never been refunded as it has never won enough votes for either provincial or national representation.

Looks really good so far, but as stated before, once the big numbers from the townships come in, the picture might look different. I'm looking forward to seeing how this develops over the next day.
