Five arrested for illegal march

I am merely questioning why in one case where an illegal protest is taking place, the protesters are arrested for "conspiring to commit a crime" (as per Gary's post above), but in (multiple) other cases, no such arrests take place, even when looting of shops/vendors occur, and/or damage to property, etc, i.e. not just conspiring to commit a crime, but actually committing a crime. Does this not raise your eyebrow, not even a little bit?

Perhaps because the SAPS under the DA run Western Cape actually do their job where the SAPS in Gauteng etc couldn't be bothered.

How many people marched on Saturday?

Why were these guys marching on Sunday when 10's of 1000's were marching on Saturday?

Well, they weren't arrested in Sea point, they were arrested in Gardens.
In the Parliamentary precinct - for which you need permission from the Chief Magistrate - its a straight forward application process, had to do it once on an urgent basis which is a little more challenging ...

Understood, but they weren't marching there.
I suppose thats why they were released today with no charges?

Here's the thing, they DID in fact have a permit for Sunday. 3-4pm
When some were deviating, and moved to the road, they were told by SAPS to move back to the pavilion and they did.

the point was this, that you clearly missed:
disobeying a lawful command is a flimsy charge at best, but unfortunately remains valid and is abused saps (by sea point saps in particular).

if they had permission & were wrongfully arrested they must take action against saps for wrongful arrest & detention - sending a clear message right back

I believe that they have initiated a process through the ICD.

Good news!
Held without charge? CT is getting bad these days.

Serious question. If held without charge then why did they spend the night in jail? I mean on what grounds did they get arrested?

probably find the prosecutor withdrew charges at court.

i'm surprised they were not released on bail from the police station, duty prosecutor could have been called for an after hours bail application

That is clear hate speech and public disorder on public streets. There is no place in our democracy for such behaviour.
