flickering LCD

you will not come with me shopping, look what happened when we went to go buy mags

Exavtly look at that you would of been upset with the 15" Mags now so at least let me advise you on a lovely 50" tv and you will be happy with that for a long time as well!

Still cost me an extra 3k

you just like everything bigger, over compensating much :p

Sorry I'm on the otherside of Jo'burg not the east. On the border of Randburg

/didn't see this til now - sorry

no worries, at this point I am just trying to decide if I should fix or buy new, it is really starting to pee me off :(

obviously depends on how much it will cost to fix, and if like R500 or so would be happy with that but just worried it might bomb out again.

As for it being an earthing problem, is this also viable or just BS?

Earthing.... Not likely.

I would still stick to saying it's most likely dry joints. 2nd possible faulty caps. This should be repairable by most people that repair LCDs without much problem.
Will phone & get a rough idea tomorrow but remember they can't be properly accurate without seeing the monitor/tv...

understood and thanks a mil! and which company will you be calling, I wouldn't mind taking it through to randburg side, perhaps my buddy who is giving me kark in this thread could even drop it off seeing he is that side everyday :D

how far do you think one could launch a 32" LCD screen? kicking it will not fully vent my frustration

Not sure, but let me know when you try so that I can watch :D

Are you still going TV shopping this weekend?

/wonders how many hits I could get with a youtube video, video title: man builds trebuchet and launches 32" LCD screen 5 blocks

yep still going to compare apples :) but also still going to get an opinion on repair, a friend suggested early bird today (didn't even know they were still around) so will give them a call in the morning and hear their thoughts

Hmmmmmmmmm.....

:p

dammit no early bird in my town center, one not too far away though, also called another local TV company, need to take it in, no tv for a few days :(

so before I go compare apples tomorrow some advice please

what is the difference between the 430 and the 450, the 450 has extra hdmi input, a usb input?

then also can someone please explain more on this:

Problems with plasma's is that they consume more electricity and are prone to burn-in and image retention if you are not careful.

yes I am a tv n00b :o

Postman Pat has a 450, so maybe PM him? As far as I can remember, its a different design, extra hdmi, anti-gloss screen maybe?

Pm PP though :)

I just went through the old posts properly:

Differences are that the PS42/50C450 has:

Better anti-reflective coating
Extra HDMI port
FM tuner capability
USB media player that plays .mkv's among others (no need for HD media player, although I'd still recommend you get one as they will play anything you throw at it)
Better menu system
Better remote
Touch of Colour Rose Black design (chicks dig it)

They're about 7 - 10% more than the PS42/50C430. Still great TV's though.

cats doesn't stock the 450 though, where should have stock of both?

And any idea on the image retention and burn?

The 450 looks the same as the 430 except it has 3 hdmi ports the anti reflective screen and a newer menu system Oh and also cost about R500 more but is worth it. Both have usb input. I've got the PS50430 and have had no issues regarding burn-in, there was some image retention in the beginning but that is a non issue now after 3 months.

thanks Jakes,

are there any tips to avoid image retention, lessen the effects etc?

Also is it permanent?
