You have to keep the brightness to about 50 during the first 100 hours (Movie mode) and don't leave static images on for too long. When watching movies where black bars are showing top and bottom it goes away after a couple of seconds. The longer you have the tv the less time it will take to disappear until you don't notice anymore after a month or so. Image retention is temporary but burn-in is not.

I went over to a friend the other day who has had a 42" for a while and I actually checked the product code at the back because I thought he changed it to a 32".

no worries V :) I appreciate the help so not upset or anything, understand ;)

at this point I am weighing up options of repairing or replacing, obviously depends on prices etc of repairing, the problem keeps getting worse and there is a distinct buzzing noise, i am expecting to hear a pop very soon :cry:

and burn in will happen if there is a static picture like leaving the tv on on the dvd menu screen etc I assume.

Regarding the black bar at the top and the bottom, so if the movie is in that mode it won't cause a problem?

Not sure where to get it actually...

The tv has anti-burn in options in the menu, such as pixel-shift.

Don't forget, there is a difference between burn-in and IR. IR is temporary, burn in is permanent.

IR is when the previous image stays there when you change channels, such as a logo. Burn in is when the logo or whatever is permanently burned into the screen.

If you take the right precautions, you will not burn in anything.

IR and burn-in really aren't the problem they once were.

Correct, you do see a slight variation in the colour where the bars were after watching a movie but it goes away very quickly and thats only in the first month or so

C450's use "Touch of Colour Rose Black" and have a faint transparent red strip along the bottom horizontal. :)

Under menu settings you will find the burn-in protection area. Just enable everything. Think it's pixel shift and something else.

To be extra safe, after watching something with static images (TV logo, movie logo, movie black bars, gaming HUD, etc.) if you are a little paranoid you can run the "image sweeper"/scroller for about 30 seconds - displays white and black "sweeps" from right to left which will get rid of any image retention. Effectively it's the same as simply changing channels since changing channels will allow those plasma cells that were displaying the static image(s) to display something else.

That said, I've never had retention (or burn-in) on my PS42C450. Not after 5 hours of movies, not after 3 test matches of cricket, etc.. I'm quite sure it's because the room isn't too bright which allows me to run the brightness at a lower level.
 
So I got told via pm that Maxicare handles the telefunken warranties, so gave them a call, indeed they do, but only with units in 1st year warranty, so was referred by them to master tronics whom I then called, I am told by them that the minimum charge on a 32" unit is R1500 regardless :wtf:

Well, sorry to say bud, but that pretty much settles it.

That is not financially viable unfortunately :(

Too spend that repairing an old 32" Telefunken LCD, is just not worth it....

yip new plasma time me thinks, that place V is calling, I suspect they do a board level repair and that is why it will come out cheaper instead of replacing, so then maybe fix and sell, hmmmm
