And any idea on the image retention and burn?
a colleague of mine bought the PS50C450 for R7999 on monday

thanks Jakes,
are there any tips to avoid image retention, lessen the effects etc?
Also is it permanent?
yeah I would be more interested in the 42", 50" is tempting but a lot.
Dex!,
I am really sorry![]()
I could not find your thread the other day & this is the first I'm seeing it again![]()
I have called & the person that I normally speak to is in a meeting. Have left a message & he'll call me back soon.
I have now PM'd myself a link to this thread so I can find it easier next time.
Should be able to give you a quote estimation in about an hour.
You have to keep the brightness to about 50 during the first 100 hours (Movie mode) and don't leave static images on for too long. When watching movies where black bars are showing top and bottom it goes away after a couple of seconds. The longer you have the tv the less time it will take to disappear until you don't notice anymore after a month or so. Image retention is temporary but burn-in is not.
I went over to a friend the other day who has had a 42" for a while and I actually checked the product code at the back because I thought he changed it to a 32".

no worries VI appreciate the help so not upset or anything, understand
at this point I am weighing up options of repairing or replacing, obviously depends on prices etc of repairing, the problem keeps getting worse and there is a distinct buzzing noise, i am expecting to hear a pop very soon
and burn in will happen if there is a static picture like leaving the tv on on the dvd menu screen etc I assume.
Regarding the black bar at the top and the bottom, so if the movie is in that mode it won't cause a problem?
The 450 looks the same as the 430 except it has 3 hdmi ports the anti reflective screen and a newer menu system Oh and also cost about R500 more but is worth it. Both have usb input. I've got the PS50430 and have had no issues regarding burn-in, there was some image retention in the beginning but that is a non issue now after 3 months.

So I got told via pm that Maxicare handles the telefunken warranties, so gave them a call, indeed they do, but only with units in 1st year warranty, so was referred by them to master tronics whom I then called, I am told by them that the minimum charge on a 32" unit is R1500 regardless :wtf:
Well, sorry to say bud, but that pretty much settles it.
That is not financially viable unfortunately
Too spend that repairing an old 32" Telefunken LCD, is just not worth it....
Sorry dude!
Sell it for R500 - R1,000 and say it will cost R1,500 to fix.
Worth a try.
good point
any good specials on at the mo I saw that link with the 430 for R4699 at cats
Very good price, take it!
Or 50" for ±R6,999!
