I've just had the flu. It was a nasty bout this year. Worst is over after 2 days. I think I went through a few packages of Corenza C.

The one year in my life that i had the shot i got the worst bronchitis, was down for nearly 8 days. May have been coincidence but i very rarely get anything more than a sore throat except the one year i had a flu shot :D.

same thing happened to me too.... I havent had it since and generally apart from my seasonal sinus problems have been OK. I cant say the same for this year though.

Don't do it. Years ago I used to go for them and ended up being sick all the time. After I stopped having the shots I have been much better off in all honesty. I will never again in my life go for a flu jab. It's a money making racket and you are only weakening your own immune system.

Work is giving us flu shots if we want it. I do not know if I should. I did not get sick at all last year even without the shot. I have heard other people also say that the one year they got the shot they either got sick anyway or the severity actually increased. Opinions? Rather just dose up on Moducare and what will be will be?

i'd recommend against it, there are a lot of good vaccines out there but the flu shot isn't one of them. if you do get one, report back here how sick you get

A lot of people get colds or sinusitis conclude that they had flu. Colds tend to be more localised, meaning, throat, running nose. Flu is serious. Your whole body is attacked and can lead to lots of complications, including heart problems, pneumonia etc.

The thing about the flu shot is that it isn't a guarantee that you won't get it, but it does help your body to generate antibodies to defend against the most common strands of influenza viruses for the season. I've been getting one every year for the past 8 years, and it does work once in a while. It also decreased my 'downtime' being sick.

Don't even waste your money on that, what will be will be regardless of supplements.

Moducare is proven to work by University of Stellenbosch. I would rather spend a bit more on something that works than on Vitamin C supplements that you just pee out in a hour or two.

I was leaning towards giving it a skip already. Now I think I will do just that.

I'd like to read a bit more about this proof, if you have a link, it would be great. I'm too lazy too Google  People take supplements for the 4 or 5 days they have flu, then when the flu is gone, they assume it's the supplements, and not the normal 'lifespan' of the virus.

Apart from this thread I got advice that I shouldn't go ahead and do it because you get a whole lot worse after you get off it, or the specific general strand isn't the one that got you. I'd rather not, if my goal through these efforts are to not get sick and I get a whole lot sicker after (which even though I wasn't sick during winter, defeats the entire purpose of the shot itself) or get sick anyway.

This may be a massive widespread misconception on the use and working of flu shots, when I think about them I think that they're some insane 1st tier full proof protection against flu when the reality is (or seems to be) that they help with help that you don't seem to need or can obtain without the use of money and expectation of no flu for a couple of months.

The thing about the flu shot is that it isn't a guarantee that you won't get it, but it does help your body to generate antibodies to defend against the most common strands of influenza viruses for the season.

OR you can eat a truckload of oranges and call it a season ... (if your body works that way)

I will try and find it.

I can't find where you can actually download the study. Was published in the International Journal of Immunopharmacology. While searching I see there was a thread on this forum about it already. http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/343319-Moducare-who-takes-it-and-do-you-think-it-works

Well that thread is not of much help. But if you claim it works for you, good for you. ;)

No, not a lot of information in that thread. It is a product researched and developed if I am correct by University of Stellenbosch and produced by Aspen so I do not believe it to be a witches brew :)

Sensible approach: Only get it if you're particularly vulnerable (elderly/weakened immune system). I don't have the full tinfoil hat approach to vaccines that many seem to, but I don't think you should unnecessarily inject antibodies, etc into your body.
