Hey everyone,

Been having a look around and can't seem to find the answer to my question:

Is it possible to make outgoing calls through FNB Connect without registering with the SIP server first?

I'm basically trying to set my FNB Connect account up as an additional gateway on my Linksys SPA 3102 so that I can route certain outgoing calls through FNB Connect. By setting them up as a gateway I am obviously not registering with the SIP server. I know with some companies you HAVE to register with the SIP server before outgoing calls are possible. Is this the case with FNB Connect? I certainly hope not...

there are mainly two methods of passing calls through SIP server.

1- most popular is the username and password method. This is used for public environment, for users with mobile devices, softphones and home IP Phones/devices. An internet connection with dynamic IP can be used.

2- IP Auth- this method is mainly used in the enterprise and telco environment, where a device on a fixed IP can be used to send calls to a SIP server. No registration is necessary. This is also a more secure method of passing SIP calls.

Most telcos will be able to offer both the above methods of connection. You need to enquire from them. However, if you want option 2, then ensure that you have a fixed IP. ADSL has Dynamic IP.

Your best bet is to contact your service provider and ask them how to setup the device on their network.

Thanx man. Static IP is unfortunately not an option for me :(
I have sent a message to FNB Connect's support team querying this. If it's not possible then I might request if they could add the ability :)
