Do you have any debt?

If not, go get some.

Banks will only lend you money if you have a track record of paying it back.So you can be a multi millionaire but unless you have accounts, no one is going to lend you money.

Also - why do you need a CC?

Going to take a stab in the dark and say ebucks....

I HIGHLY recommend not getting a credit card. It seems very convenient and wonderful, but trust me, paying off interest incurring debt is just a ****ty way to spend your salary. You lose so much money paying off interest, you just dig yourself into a hole. I HIGHLY recommend not doing this.

Open a clothing account. You need to build a credit record.

Usually you have to be working in a permanent job for at least 6 months before the banks even think about giving you a credit card

Not if you settle it monthly by transferring your salary into it. You get more ebucks if using FNB or get more interest if using Captec...

True, but I am fairly sure the majority of people who get a credit card spend more on it than they can pay back in a month, hence incurring interest etc.

A credit card saved my ass more than a few times.

It completely depends on what type of person you are, if you cannot control your spending then yes I'd say it's a bad idea but a credit card can be a very useful thing if you can manage it.

I've had a credit card since the age of 19 without every paying any interest or spending more than I have.

Your comment only applies to those who has no self control.

Such as the average 18 year old who just started working and sees a gold mine in resources?

You are 18...so the obvious question is do you even have a job?

Without that the odds of getting a CC is pretty damn low.

Why do you even have a Gold cheque account at 18?

If you are earning a salary every month a good start for credit history is starting an active account or 2,paid religiously
Good starter is a cellphone contract ( not a 1k/m iphone,a topup one if you are used to using prepaid ) or a clothing account. An actively used account paid up often will also count higher than an account sitting idle ( so don't sign up for 20 clothing accounts and never buy, that's risky behaviour since you have a large line of unused credit )
