FNB Easy Account VS Capitec Global One

You get four additional accounts for free. Switch sms notifications off and move a chunk of your money into a sub account (can't be touched) then move money to main account if/when needed. Simple really.

Not all that simple. I can admit that Capitec charging for sms notifications is one of their weaknesses. The branch experience kicks every other bank's arse though.

Theres your why.
What for paying a R5 administration fee plus 0.33 cents times 6 smses and then get so much interest back from the bank they literally pay me to bank with them?

Mmmmm...

You can use Capitec for online purchases. It's not embossed.

Can you use it internationally though?

Normally the "flat" cards work locally but not for international shopping using this like Paypal and Amazon.

Mmmmm...

FNB pays me in excess of a grand every month to bank with them, after costs.

If I were to switch to Capitec I would be at a loss of about R1400.

That's before 40% discounts, lounge access, Point 2 Point transfers and other extras.

Contrary to what you believe Capitec is not the right bank for everyone. It's about a hell of a lot more than just baseline fees.

PayPal works, just buying though.
Can't remember Amazon, also note Amazon doesn't do a CVV check.

That's interesting then I would imagine other things work too.

Although it could be based on a background agreement I guess since Paypal has more and more local support.

That is exactly the problem.

It's printed on the spot and therefore doesn't conform to the same security measures as an ordered card which is why it doesn't work online internationally.
It works online internally I've order from Newegg, Amazon, PayPal and eBay.

Lay out your costs let's do a comparison.

What do you mean internally?

But that's good to hear, other banks without embossed cards don't work.

At least for Nedbank I know it doesn't for damn sure.

My costs are all inclusive at R350 a month.

With that I get a minimum of R1450 in eBucks. Which further gets me 40% off on select items/shops but even without the discount it means I nett R1100 from FNB.

Beyond that I can get free Airport transfers I think 6 (could be 4) times a year. I can use that for family or friends as well, as long as it's an airport and no further than 50km. It's a whole car not a per person job either.

Further to that I can use any domestic lounge when flying locally and also also any international lounge up to I seem to recall 6 times a year.

I could lower the package to 199 and get slightly less eBucks but I lose the point to point transfer and international lounge access then. As well as the Private Banker, which to be honest I don't really use and is much of a muchness.

If I fly I do even one return flight a year it's already served it's purpose. More than that is a bonus.

Next year when I move away from Vodacom, FNB will pay me back 40% of all my cellphone spend.

Believe me I understand completely where you are coming from. I used to be a big supporter of paying almost no fees on Pick & Pay Go Banking which was the cheapest option before Capitec came along, but it's about about so much more than that.

Also once my home loan is two years old I can renegotiate my interest rate. If that gets lowered by even .25% it will further negate my bank fees.

Simple, but inefficient and unnecessary. To have to make individual transactions to move money in between accounts for security? Simple minded, more like. :p

For me it is. Your interest will cover any losses with SMS charges anyway so I don't know what the fuss is about.

You're wasting the precious interest money on SMSes. You could get the interest AND free SMSes at FNB. The fuss is the logic you use to back the "Capitec is better" idea is flawed.

What for paying a R5 administration fee plus 0.33 cents times 6 smses and then get so much interest back from the bank they literally pay me to bank with them?

Mmmmm...

What about paying a R5 administration fee plus ZERO times AS MANY smses you can receive AND then get so much interest back from the bank they literally pay you to bank with them.

Well I don't need SMSs. Money comes in I move it to my other account, it can't be touched. I transact with my credit card.

Now using internet banking needs my hardware token, so a sim swop won't do anything.

Also going into the bank there's my picture and biometric access so I'm safer than at FNB.

Not worth the argument
