I need some help om a situation.

My sister's FNB account got hacked and they've empty the account took a big amount of money.

The card used for the Fraud was her new card number delivered the previous day.

The time the Fraud happened the card was still sealed in the envelope unopened. Not even even activated on her FNB app. She phoned FNB Fraud department and they did an investigation. Now FNB don't want to pay her back. What let me think that the fraud is coming from inside the bank.

I'm very disappointed in FNB with this matter.. I'm also with FNB and I want to move my account now because of this.

Did anyone experienced a similar situation? Or have any advice on going forward to resolve this situation. She is really in a need of her money to take care of her children..

Ombudsman may be your only choice...

But it would be interesting to know how FNB are refusing to refund the money if the card number used was related to a card that hadn't be activated yet.

While we cannot comment on the veracity of your hacking claims (other people have lied here and elsewhere before, when the reality it turns out to be they willingly gave away information to some kind of scammer that enabled the theft), the best path to then follow is to lodge a complaint with the Banking Ombudsman, now that FNB has completed their investigation.

Banking Ombudsman
If the card wasn't even activated on her app the loss sits with FNB

I really really doubt that by some magic, a system that can ensure millions of cards were not usable before being activated, suddenly let one slip through?

Is she SURE she was not phished, smished or vished?

You're not alone.

What was their reasoning behind the refusal?

Fraud National Bank.

Face it. I had to open an account for Paypal and it could only be FNB. So much hassles. Now my Paypal account has been switched to an US account just because Paypal also got fed up with the way things got handled. I've had no issues since. Keep is as a savings account. SARS complained and got a mouthful too.
