FNB Fraud!

When you dig deep into these "fraud" stories, it always feels like we're not getting all the information here.
Yeah you are correct, That why its difficult to advice scammed people as they always leave out the important details. If indeed the fraud happened before the card was even activated then Why did they accept and sign for the card from the courier? and Why not call the fraud line and enquire why a card that is in transit is being used for fraud?

I need some help om a situation.

My sister's FNB account got hacked and they've empty the account took a big amount of money.

The card used for the Fraud was her new card number delivered the previous day.

The time the Fraud happened the card was still sealed in the envelope unopened. Not even even activated on her FNB app. She phoned FNB Fraud department and they did an investigation. Now FNB don't want to pay her back. What let me think that the fraud is coming from inside the bank.

I'm very disappointed in FNB with this matter.. I'm also with FNB and I want to move my account now because of this.

Did anyone experienced a similar situation? Or have any advice on going forward to resolve this situation. She is really in a need of her money to take care of her children..
You came to the worst place for advice...

The card had been delivered already, but it is claimed that it was still sealed in the envelope.

Also, there are daily payment limits on cards, obviously depending on how much you have in the account it should be quite difficult to clean out an entire bank account in one day from a compromised card unless you've explicitly increased your daily limit to something crazy.

For the OP's story to check out we must make a lot of assumptions:

1) That someone somehow managed to get sight of the bank card's details before or while it was in a sealed envelope.

2) That, despite the card not being activated on FNB's systems, someone was still able to make purchases with it (presumably online)

3) That despite there being daily payment limits on cards, the bank account of the client was able to be cleaned out without any fraud alerts from FNB.

That's a lot of assumptions.

Them: Vodacom stole all my data!

/me takes their phone and looks things over.

Me: No, you let all your GBs of pictures sync with Google over your mobile data connection.

Card was received but still sealed as received from the courier. The previous card was still active at the time. Their reason for rejecting the claim is that I must have opened a fraudulent link. When I discovered these transactions in my debit card I immediately phoned the FNB fraud line. All my cards and profile was blocked immediately. The transactions was still pending at the time, I have asked them to stop and reverse it, but they had to do an investigation first.

Oh I understand, Was the fraud committed on the new card or the active old card?

The new card number was used, but when I followed up on the case now they told me that the transaction was done on the old card, just went off on the new card number. That particular card number wasn't used once by myself as I have blocked it minutes after I have discovered these fraudulent transactions.

Did you get any SMS in the past few weeks about a package waiting for you? (Post Office or other courier). Or about redeeming Vodacom points?

I'm struggling to follow to be honest.

This is why I could never ever work in support, there is much to be desired in the way people articulate themselves when reporting with errors/faults/fraud.

Maybe bullet points in chronological order of exactly what transpired, reference the cards used clearly as Old vs New etc.

At least the "Hackers cloned my virtual card" article had a video and followed logical sequential steps

Yes, I am guilty on the high limit as to I sometimes have to make large deposits.
The card was delivered but still sealed.
There were 22 transactions in less than 20 minutes. And NO, no fraud alerts was received. Not even an sms received when the transactions was done. I only discovered it the next day when I wanted to do something on my app.

'Old card' was about to expire but still active.
'New card' (card number used by these transactions) was delivered by courier but I haven't opened it yet at the time of the fraudulent transactions.
