FNB Fraud!

So how do you know this was the card used?

And how exactly was it used that the account could be emptied out?

Can you use apple pay for online gambling?
Well that was the other thing I was goign to question because it isnt possible but just thought maybe they have a walkin spot. Didn't give much thought to looking at their business

Guess Apple pay is an option but don't know how that works so as I thought apple pay is used to make payments by tapping your phone or watch. Screenshot_20240527_133812_Chrome.jpg

No it can do online payments too.

works similarly, you check-out with Apple Pay it will prompt your phone or other Apple device to make payment and you authenticate biometrics then choose the card and pay.

Sure but you can't use an unactivated card. It is a security feature to prevent unauthorized use if the card is lost or stolen in transit.

I wonder how the fraudsters accessed the card details in a sealed envelope as the OP said it was not yet opened.

That's what I think too. People screw up and when the fit hits the shan they blame others to try and have their mistake rectified in their favor.
Well, thank you all for your time and for those who actually gave advise on contacting the ombudsman. That will be the next step.

As for the others, I am just going to leave this chat now as I can't believe what I am reading. We asked for advise as someone scammed me out of my hard earned money.

And I sure hope that this never happens to you.

It had to go into a sealed envelope at some point....

Also can't you just NFC scan it for its card number to hand over to your syndicate buddies?

But my money is on the supply chain. About 10 years ago i was involved in an investigation of prepaid cellphone vouchers - also sealed in plastic AND had a scratchpad and yet they were being used before they were sold.

You will be very surprised the ideas and methods syndicates come up with all the way from the card printers...

Best thing is just to ignore the jokers & respond to what's helpful. Welcome to forum life where every thread's a circus.

Why isn't it possible?

You can use Apple Pay from any Apple device for online purchases. Just like Google Pay.

But there is no way of adding a card to Apple Pay without using the FNB App or using the Cellphone number linked to the card.

OP got phished...or is the perpetrator.

FNB has nothing to do with it...other than being the poor bastards in the middle.

You are not the first person this has happened to, and many do lie about giving out their information willingly, even your language has now changed about what happened, so you must understand, we have trust issues because we have been lied to before.

Proceed with the ombud, and please let us know what their finding is.

If this is genuine card-not-present (CNP) fraud then you will get your money back, either from the merchant who authorised the purchases or the bank. It's very rare that the cardholder will be liable unless they can prove negligence on your part (like willingly giving your card details in a phishing scam, for example).
