FNB Fusion

So I activated and swiped - it comes off my cheque account like, well, swiping my cheque card. I can't see anything fused.

On my Internet banking I have (pretend numbers) :

- FNB Cheque with R10,000 overdraft
- FNB Card with R10,000 credit limit

I thought that with this, I should see :

- FNB Fusion with R20,000 credit

The “fusion” is supposed to be that there is no longer a need for a Credit Card.

The card functions exactly like a credit card but is attached to a cheque account meaning no need for moving money around and having multiple accounts to look at etc.

This was the idea when it launched, no more credit cards and related fees.

Then suddenly two years ago (maybe three) they decided to give away the credit card for free with the Fusion packages for some idiotic reason that goes against the entire concept in the first place.

There was also never a fee for the overdraft facility and you got 30days interest free so it was so much simpler and less hassle. Then they suddenly started charging R69 a month if you actually used the overdraft.

*I only have the Fusion card and nothing else. Almost never need the overdraft so it makes sense for me, but if you need the credit much more sensible to use the credit card for the interest free window.

Because fusion without CC is a brain dead idea. It completely neutralizes the interest free benefit.

Like I said it was interest free in the beginning just for 30 days instead of 55.

If you don’t need to use credit in the first place the interest free window doesn’t matter.

But yes the current state of the product is idiotic and makes no sense.

Thanks guys.

Yea the idea originally seemed to make much more sense. I actually thought they fused both accounts into one - would make even more sense...

That’s exactly what they originally did.

That totally backfired with the one account many moons back!

Cc+cheque+bond...

Interest free was only on swipes, not EFTs, which killed the whole idea.

So, if I book travel ticket using FNB fusion, money would be taken from my Cheque account, right? I mean travel tickets are costly and I usually use CC and pay it off in 2 months time.

oh - there is overdraft so it kind of works the same? Is that correct ?

Why oh why would you want to use Fusion when you can use the CC?

Heh, that is what I would like to know. FNB consultants keep on pushing FNB fusion so my cynical mind thinks that it can't be that good then.
Just use the credit card for credit card things and fusion for current account things. It doesn't need to be complicated.

Actually, I went to unfreeze my account (FICA) and consultant sold the idea of fnb fusion card to me. It seemed ok that time and since I didn't have debit card (expired a while ago and I didn't bother applying), I said fine.

You also get Roadside Assistance with the petrol card.

I am covered for that with my insurance policy as well as the extended warranty, so don't need a 3rd option.
Not anymore

Not anymore
What is this then ?

AA Emergency Roadside Assistance

A helping hand

As an FNB Petro Card holder, you'll get free automatic AA Emergency Roadside Assistance so you'll never be left stranded again, including:

  • Out of fuel - Provision of fuel to a maximum of ten (10) litres (cost of fuel is for cardholder's account)
  • Stay safe while waiting for assistance with Stand By You
  • Flat tyre/battery assistance

I’m so confused as well.

But I took whatever they gave me
Really needn't be confusing at all. You have two accounts, a credit card account and and current account. The credit card works with the credit card account and the fusion card with the current account.

What is this then ?

That's because it will only be discontinued on the 14th of October 2022 - FNB clients got the message via in app messaging.

I'm sure the info online will be amended or removed after the 14th

Edit: As you say, what is this then?
