FNB Graphite

So you get three tiers of high end clients:

1) Private Clients that deserve to be there
2) Private Clients that squeezed into that bracket when requirements were less stringent
3) Graphite Clients

Since they cant be seen to be taking anything away from a client, if you fell into Private Clients without really qualifiying for it, you will stay there under the new branding.

They can then escalate the cream of the crop of high income clients to Private Wealth, and then have very stringent requirements on how one can get in there to stop the rabble from getting in there in the future.

So they are pretty much renaming Private Clients to Private Wealth, downgrading the peasant scum that doesnt deserve to be there without taking away their "Private Client" cards and look good to Graphite clients by giving them an "upgrade" to Private Clients that is for all intents and purposes, Graphite.

Edit comment: And, they get to drop a branding blunder that had very little chance of real success, as graphite was barely publicised and not taken up by other banks. Probably inspired by Standard Bank's Titanium series that also had no real market penetration.

Thanks Komodo, that makes a lot of sense :) Graphite does make a nice stepping stone on the way to genuine private banking I suppose.

Can you confirm which eBucks Reward rules will apply to Graphite going forward?

No idea, anything I say will be speculation :-)

If they apply Private Client eBucks Reward rules to Graphite then there's no way I will upgrade to Graphite from Platinum. Just not worth it then :(

Agreed.

Will be downgrading if thats the case.

I somehow doubt it though, this seems like a renaming excercise. Im keeping my premier banker under private clients which doesnt scream pvc service.

Ugh, branding fail

Private Wealth = you're just a balance sheet. Private Clients = you're a client. A person. IMHO anyway.

The email I received for Graphite:

As a valued FNB Graphite client you already know that you are among the select few who enjoy all the product benefits that Graphite has to offer. At FNB, we are constantly evolving and have acknowledged that when our clients reach a point in their banking lifecycle their need for a more focussed approach to a private banking service develops. It is with you in mind that we communicate some exciting news: FNB is evolving the Graphite offering into a private banking service model.
This means that you now not only get to still enjoy all the benefits offered by Graphite such as one-stop banking service from your banker, your lifestyle benefits and your rewards, but you will also get to enjoy more crafted services offered exclusively by private banking like greater access to financial planning, investments, wealth and fiduciary services. This will be offered to you by FNB Private Clients.

How will I experience the change?
Your Graphite Cheque, Graphite Credit Card and linked Graphite Petro Card accounts will all be renamed to FNB Private Clients accounts and you will notice this on your account statements as well as on the FNB Banking App, FNB Online Banking and on FNB ATMs.

What should I do with my Graphite cards?
Your current Graphite cards will continue to work, look the same as the new FNB Private Clients cards and will continue to give you access to all the Graphite benefits which you may have already experienced. The name ‘Graphite’ on your FNB cards will in time be renamed to ‘Private Clients’ as and when your existing cards come to expire and are replaced.

Your Graphite benefits?
All benefits* that Graphite offers you today will still be available to you for exactly the same pricing. Benefits such as: eBucks Rewards, where you can earn up to 5% back in eBucks when you shop online or internationally and up to 2.5% back when you swipe for shopping and discounts on data where you can get up to 100% off your uncapped ADSL data with FNB Connect. You will continue to enjoy access to our SLOW lounges as well as access to eBucks Lifestyle, depending on your reward level, you can qualify for free Priority Pass Lounge visits and Avis Point2Point transfers. In addition, you still have the benefit of free AA Emergency Roadside Assistance and the free Take Me Home service on your linked Petro Card as well as free Comprehensive Global Travel Insurance when you use your cheque or credit card to purchase your travel tickets.

What about my Premier Banker?
With a relationship approach of dedicated financial planning and banking advice, your Premier Banker will now be called your Relationship Banker and will remain your personal point of contact for all your day-to-day banking, credit and Forex needs and will provide you with access to financial planning, wealth, investments and fiduciary services.

Your current Graphite pricing as well as your Graphite benefits all remain unchanged and you still have the same Banker to fulfil all your banking needs. You will now have access to all the financial planning, wealth, investments, fiduciary services that FNB Private Clients has to offer. We are proud to welcome you to FNB Private Clients.

So everyone is being * Bumped up * so to speak?

I received an attachment with my Private Wealth email with all the ebucks details.
Anyway, we will see what happens on Monday I guess.

I don't know about any of you but the black cards that you get with private fade very quickly. I can barely see the numbers on my CC anymore.

But what will change other than name is the real question.

Im keeping my premier banker and you are keeping you private banker so where is the change?

Currently on platinum, got invited to graphite, asked for downgrade to gold, am literally just pissing money away as I derive no benefit from all these funky products. They just seem like status symbols.

Graphite use to have no limit on ebucks earned which is quite nice over gold and platinum.

Still no limit but you earn at 0.6% after you reach a certain threshhold which i cant recall at the moment.

Yep, everything stays the same my profile will just read Private Wealth as opposed to Private Client.

Oh well

My Graphite invitation has morphed into a Private Banking (entry level) invitation at least. Got the email this morning. Good to know the offer is still on the table :p

I am in ste same situation , After the Province by the salesman that I will get more rewards with the Private Clients, I found that from Level5(40% discount) dropped to level 1 , and to move on I HAVE to have Credit Card too , Th Earnings on Cheque card are HALF by the new pricing guide,(*For qualifying cheque card purchases the
reward rate will be half of the rates listed above.)
If One Compares the last year one (when I switched) the prices suck- We had Unlimited ATM(Any ATM) cash withdrawals, Now even FNB are limited to 4.
Not because I draw cash but happens few times when they don't accept cards and you have only Nedbank or other ATM around. Why so fancy account if have to pay more.. Just for Slow longe options that are on First page of the Pricing guide, I never used this stuff, I need Day to Day benefits not occasional one.
They had if you keep balance of 100K the monthly fee is waved out, Now is not there anymore..
I am looking at going "voluntarily" back to Plat, or even Gold, because of the monthly fees.. The Benefits are the same if not better.
They want you to spend more,Get credits(be up to the neck in debts) to earn couple of e-backs

UP to 2.5% and UP to 5% depends on your spending spree profile :-)

i fudgen hate my new banker: shes incompetent, rude and doesn't even know my name( i guess i dont earn that much for her to remember it).

I might as well downgrade to Platinum, at-least then i wont be paying **** loads for a service i never get. Graphite is not a bad product, its banker is.
