Fnb is offline!!!!!!!!! Wtf

I've had it happen to me when paying for petrol in the early hours with FNB as well. Incredibly inconvenient. I keep a few hundreds in my car in case, but that time it wasn't enough. Luckily I keep a spare Nedbank card on me in case, but agreed that it's unacceptable for card facilities to not be available 24/7 (as advertised) with the exception of unplanned network outages. A bank has no excuse to have any planned downtime in 2019 (speaking as someone with experience in retail banking).

There is new stuff being rolled out this year. We need the planned downtime to implement the systems, Thanks!
And no we're not a bank.
 
I've noticed a trend with FNB though, they're systems seem to be off during the early hours of the morning. Has happened to me a few times, camped at a garage once after a crazy night, the FNB card declined several times. We tried to fill up fuel in a friend's car, after some time the card worked.
 
Banks in general are a bunch of naaiers if you ask me.

either that, or they decide to FICA your account without warning, blocking your account until you pitch up with your ID book and residential address to verify.

Is it not possible to share infrastructure or have a "roaming agreement" with other banks, like cell operators do.

This will prevent a "transaction blackout".

It is unacceptable that in 2019 a bank has to go completely offline to perform maintenance.

Have a back up account is a silly argument. I don't want a backup account, i do not want to go thru the process of opening another account. I just want FNB to ****ing work.

They were offline for a few hours during this incident.

I was at a mall during the day! & had to pay for my glasses at torga.

Anyway, i had to spend an extra 2 hours at the mall before FNB decided to come online again. It was frustrating walking up and down to ATMs & checkers, only to realise fnb was offline.

This also happened while shopping for groceries. I waited in a ****ing queue like every1 else, get to the counter, paying for my stuff & declined!

Embarrassed me : I have funds. Fnb must be offline.

Angry looks from cashier, it involves calling a manager to cancel transaction manually & I finally get to leave but without groceries.

This is where cell operators & banks differ.

In an emergency. If fnb mobile aka cellc is offline. Phone 112, it will connect you to the closest tower in an emergency.

Yea Fnb gives zero ****s. You will be stranded at a petrol station in the middle of nowhere, you might have cash in your car but not enough to cover the entire bill.

Lol you should become a comedian. I did try withdrawing money. Fnb's entire system goes offline in this period. I even inserted my card in an Absa Atm, declined!

An EFT involves trust. Yea we live in SA, good luck with that.

Standard tried that on me about 7 years ago. They still had their own call centre at the time, not the generic one they use now. I gave them so much grief over the phone that they unlocked my account and have never tried that **** again.
 
This entire argument of withdraw cash ahead of time is bullshit, sorry.

Fnb/Ebucks entire reward scheme revolves around going cashless. You are rewarded for not using an ATM.

What is this the ****ing twilight zone.

This is why I almost always deal in cash.

I have cards if I don't have enough cash on me.

Call me old-fashioned, but I don't need this aggravation in my life.

(Or call me a drug dealer, as in another thread :D)

cash is king, as I was always told,
problem is when you do actually have that kind of money and you still cant access it because of FNB and its stuff-ups

although to be fair, in the middle of the night, things can happen... especially when your at MCD,
