FNB Pay2Cell launched

To be fair, R30 per withdrawal is a lot. Not having acces to FNB atm's - thats something FNB can sort out.

But if you saying your bank charges would go up to R500 a month, that would mean you withdrawing easily more then 10 times a month - that does not make sense and is your own fault.
My own fault? I like to have cash on me. It is my own cash. I want to withdraw it from whatever ATM is closest. I don't think anything is unreasonable about that.

why not just use your debit cards to pay for stuff? I hardly ever use cash anymore.
I do for some things. I don't for others. Either way, it is ridiculous that the bank demands I behave in a way that suits them, especially when Capitec can charge a reasonable R7. SO why cant FNB?

(Incidently, I don't have debit cards, only cheque cards. Not that changes the point you were trying to make :-) )

Why can't the others? And why is there no mention about the others charging you to use their own ATM?

Withdrawing cash more then 10 times a month! Thats equates to going to an ATM once every 3 days - that is unreasonable from my point of view.

Hey, you right, you can do what you want with you cash - bank with Captitec, with the same usage you going to clock up a minimum of R70 in bank charges just on ATM's. Some banks offer unlimited transactions for that amount (if you use their own ATM).

Choose whats right for you.

I have changed to Nedbank. Their confusing fee structure sucks, but the bank charges have come down (R250 or something for the account, and then R150 or so for withdrawal fees from other ATM's). However, the fact that the banks do this is shocking. And FNB is still one of the banks that are to blame (As are Nedbank, Standard and ABSA). If Capitec can do it, so should they.

Still sounds like you wasting a lot of money.

I am considering a move to Capitec or FNB (away from ABSA). Going to have to do a cost analysis of both but FNB is doing pretty well to impress me with all these tech stuff and new innovations they bring out. I haven't seen the iOS app in action but that is a good selling point for me.

(You can follow the FNB CEO on twitter)

On Capitec and their R7 for any ATM withdrawal, i think they would also milk the customer if they could. The thing is they don't have a big ATM network, if they even tried to charge like the other banks did, no one would bank with them - they would place themselves out the market.

At least some of the big banks provide a large ATM network and then free withdrawals from their machines - which i think is fair.

Cross-Browser testing much ?

'Nice' of a bank FNB is, I just wish they will improve their internetbanking some !
They do like ZERO cross-browser testing !

a) On chrome (linux+windows) the error message(s) are red in font size= -(minus)10000000 pt on the bottom of the screen somewhat overlay by a lightbox ?? I think it's an HORRIBLE idea to show any error messages in red on a online banking site, my parents see those and decides it's to dangerous !

b) Bad error checking - Sometimes they will tell you abc is wrong you fix abc and it's still wrong (making payments)

C) General suck factor ! They can do a better internet banking i'm sure !!!

And yes I bank with them, and yes apart from the above im impressed with them !

Meh. I used to be with FNB (I suppose I technically still am, since I haven't closed my account). But cheap they are not. The monthly fee might only be R110, but there is a R30 fee everytime you use another banks ATM. So this equated to bank charges of roughly R500 every month.
Not that Nedbank is much better...

Why are you even drawing cash in the first place? Just pay for stuff with your card and it's covered in the flat fee.
I never or very very rarly draw cash, at the most it's once a month and it's usually R100 to pay for parking at shopping centres for the month.

Because the success or failure of a bank is their cross browser internet banking tests... amirite?

Because I like to have cash on me. Banks should not be dictating via cartel-like fees, how I spent my money

If you always like having cash on you, then why not draw more lash less frequently, than less cash more frequently?
