Ive been wanting to make this post for a while just to rant a little bit, and thought why not put it here to see if im alone or if there is anyone else that feels the same. Been with Private Clients for a few years now, and when i look back upon everything i actually dont know why im paying the odd 400 a month for pretty much nothing. The odd (4?) big issues ive had with banking in the past years that my 'banker' was supposed to be able to help me with has always come back with some poor excuse of nothing can be done or please phone this and this department. What are you there for then? Why am i paying this money? For the occasional access to a full buffet at an airport slow lounge, and a glorified switchboard?

The latest dealings have become the last straw for me. Banker is unavailable when i phone and i keep getting put through to some person that asks me my ID no, and then tells me my bankers name. I know this. Put me through to them, not just the next person that will do the same. Reading up about downgrading my account , seems its a nightmare, but im very much at the point where i just want to start the process and get it done with.

grr

/endrant

This is my second time I upgraded I downgraded previously for the same reason. Now I have an awesome banker , always asking me what I need done and wanting to meet.

Some people say you can ask for a different banker.

Yup much the same reason why I'm back to Premier now as the "team" is actually much better to deal with than Private because the banker is always AWOL and then nothing gets done.

Will miss the Priority Pass though, but for the R200 a month difference and the fact I don't travel that much it probably balances out.

Ebucks? Surely if you’re on PC you spent quite a bit per month. Ebucks reward not worth it?

I’ve never dealt with my private banker, so can’t comment on the rest

They tried to get me to change from ABSA private bank (where most of my accounts are) to FNB private banking (I have an FNB bond) and the FNB experience was horrible. Still with ABSA private bank

Go to Investec or RMB for real private banking.

I gave up on FNB after a year with them, the banker was also useless. Now with Nedbank which is nice but not at the level of Investec or RMB.

Wait really? I could earn ebucks when i was still on Gold a few years ago, has that changed? If so i guess ill have to rethink it all to an extent. Ebucks is another thing thats really ticking me off lately. I keep getting messages about how much i could have earned if i had just used the app once in a while or paid R3000 or more with my credit card. What if i dont want to, and i pay life and everything else with my normal card anyway. Surely that must count as something. Not sure i really believe myself saying that last part, but you need to really dance monkey dance as of late to earn proper ebucks.

Yes people will stick with crap service, spam etc just for more money.

You again. What spam? I get the odd mail here and there. Crap service? I haven’t had a days crap service with them. I never had to contact my private banker once, so it seems on my side things just work.

And yea, I enjoy the ebucks. If I’d bank with capitec I’d get nothing. And no, I’m not interested in leaving money in a capitec account to earn low interest. I invest elsewhere.

Now be gone - capitec thread is here >>>

Upgrade to a fusion account then or just use your CC instead of your cheque card for spending.

Request a new banker, or if you want better private banking, go RMB or investec route.

I did that's why I moved away from them in the first place. They had the excuse that it's because I'm using ebucks and automagically signed up to get spammed. Weather it changed over 4 years I'm not sure and it left a bad taste in my mouth. When I got a 32 day notice account there last year they spammed me again to try and sell me a easy account. Bugger off.

the Big D is planning to start its bank later this year. They tend to be disruptive so look out for it.

heavily integrated with their other products, apparently if you don't do 10K steps per day, they withdraw R39.19 per day from your savings account :-)

Why with Nedbank when Investec is the best?

Yeeeea, from what i understand you gotta earn a certain amount, or have above X balance in your accounts to join Investec... dunno how true that is, but few guys here at work bragging about them going there put me off it. I dont wanna be part of an elistist club thanks, just want fair banking for the little people.

Overall I’m happy with Nedbank, not worth the hassle of changing.

How sophisticated is their Internet banking? From what I saw in the past, it doesn't compare feature wise with the big 4, especially ABSA

Investec: No prepaid, no electricity, no ewallet. Not sure about the rest.

Nedbank: the interface looks old but you can do quite a lot with it, it’s on par with Standard Bank. Not sure about Absa.

I was specifically asking about Investec - but thanks, good to get feedback on Nedbank as well. Honestly, I know quite a few people banking at Nedbank and they seem happy with the service.

ABSA Internet banking (I've got ABSA and FNB accounts) is sophisticated and in my opinion, beats FNB
