FNB sells one iPad every minute

Another interesting bit of information revealed by Nxasana is that FirstRand deals directly with Apple, rather than going through local Apple distributor Core to source stock of iPad tablets. “We’re importing directly from Apple and we deliver them directly to customers,” concluded Nxasana
.

Ah ha ! They are shafting Core ! LOL thats even better.

I hope they don't put all their efforts into iPad and branch out to other tablets or
rather lesser known but still reliable brands.

Great that core is getting some competition. I love innovation.

Another query, does that table REALLY require that first column? I mean it's not as if you can buy the devices without the bank account can you?

In the article the CEO says they stock the iPhone, but in their product offering they clearly don't.

Care to elaborate or ask them for comment?

You're right, well spotted. I wonder what they have to say about that.

Anyway, FNB is still my favourite bank. Glad I ditched the cold blue icy waters (Standard Bank) 4 years ago, for the greener pastures (FNB + eBucks) I feed on today.

1 iPad per minute =
60 per hour =
1440 per day =
43,200 per month

They've been selling since 19th October which is just over 4 months.

That equates to 43,200 x 4 = 172,800 iPads sold to date. Impressive. Now remember this figure is just for iPads, what about the other tablets and smartphones?

Just a pity they only allow one device per account.

It is a shame. Is it limited to one device over the whole offering, or limited to one say iPad 2 32GB at a time?

Would be awesome if they could do the iPhone soon (as in March).

yea, its one special offer per customer. :(

Yes, but you could already have had a FNB gold cheque or whatever and then this is all you pay extra for whatever device

Does not sound like it is cheaper - i.e. for an iPad2 = 309 x 24 = R 7416 - retails around this price at the moment. I suppose an interesting finance option if you bank with FNB. Interesting part is the avoidance of Core - are those devices then labelled in Core's terms "grey imports"?

What about repair / replacement and if you happen to cancel your account before the 24 months are over?

Its slightly less than retail and its an interest free loan.

The selling point is that if you move to FNB you could drop your bank charges enough to cover the cost of an iPad...

Was wondering that myself. I got one, and was told if there is a problem with the device to call the national support centre of the manufacturer to arrange for the manufacturer to repair the device. I hope I never have to go through this.

I was on this pricing plan before with FNB, so paying off the device interest free was a great option for me. If only they offered galaxy tabs in the beginning though...

Apparently if you close your account (if that's possible with this outstanding) they can remotely lock it or blacklist it. Not sure how, but that was in the terms somewhere

So Core opened the door for FNB to finance these things effectively. They're (FNB) likely very happy with their cost + finance charges = Core's retail. Consumer gets terms at local retail price.
