Me too. They have taken details of some of my faulty calls and are getting their Techs to try and trouble-shoot them. However if they want to really build a knowledge base around their product, get support and grow their product they should have an open forum like this where they can interact with people as problems are occurring. Another problem is that you can't personally email any of their reps any trouble-shooting data. This kind of silo approach, instead of open-sharing, slows down the process of evolving a product and loses you a lot of clients in the early stage of adoption. They are proud of integrating Mxit and F-Book into their application which shows someone there understand the power of social media and crowd sourcing, but they haven't gone so far yet as to open up to their users in a forum style platform.

Thanks though to Mojo at FNB Connect for chasing up my issues.

Hey,

Ive been wondering, does anyone here know how to set this SIP up on my phone?

Cheers

With the FNB call quality being so erratic you may just be measuring the change in their quality, not the change in the quality of the softphone?

I think you are right so i've settled on just using csipsimple for now as it is barebones and you can change alot of the settings.

Ok i've been trying to do some more research and think im starting to understand a bit more.

On Fnb's site https://www.fnbconnect.co.za/faq/index.php?action=artikel&cat=29&id=131&artlang=en
it says they support these codecs: * G729 * GSM * Speex * ILBC which would be the best one to use?

Also from what I understand normal cellphone calls dont go above 8Khz which might explain why I couldn't hear anything on sipdroid the minimum on all their codecs available was 11khz.

Edit: seems only gsm works anyway

Server = voice.fnbconnect.co.za
Username = 087(the rest of yr number)
Password = (yr password)

Just enter those details and you should be good to go. Btw what phone are you using?

SONY ERRICSON W995. I saw on SE forum that my phone only supports Java J2RE or so, and that doesn't support VOIP. Guess im screwed lol

NIMBUZZ

Thanks I will try it.

At the top bar go tools-options then on the left of the pop up page select call service then select sip provider and enter info. Hope that helps.

THANKS

Thanks man I managed to marry the two. Although the quality is now better it sometimes breaks

No probs by the way are you using adsl or 3g? Just wondering how much signal strength might improve the quality by.

I had a friend call me through FNB the other day. The call dropped pretty quick and he couldn't get through again. My guess is that their servers couldn't handle the load.

I am using ADSL. Infact i have been using Nimbuzz for days now but have another problem I dont know wether its nimbuzz or FNB. Sometimes when i phone somebody if he picks up the call immediately drops. If he doesnt, his phone will ring once or twice and stops ringing while on my side it is still ringing. Its as if you are phoning someone who doesnt want to answer. i have tried it with my own cellphone phoning from PC

I have been using the FNB Connect app on the cellphone and PC for a couple of months now and I have had a better than 90 % of good quality calls ...

Usually I have had bad quality when I have been on 3G or basically bad internet connection ...

For 25c/min ... I can live with those odds ... :)

I have also had good experiences with the call center ... and if they couldn't help immediately ... they got back to me with assistance from the techies ...

Overall ... they seem to be small but very willing to learn and help ...

Yeah same thing happens to me sometimes clearing the ram on my phone seems to sort it out for some reason.

Logging in Problems

FNB Connect seems to have major logging in problems at the moment. I have just phoned in to their call centre and got the "high call volumes" response, so left my number and am waiting for someone to call me back.

It just won't let me login (Desktop softphone). Yesterday same problem. I phoned in and the call centre took my IP address and gave it to the techies to enable me to login. Sounds like their firewall had been blacklisting client's IP addresses by accident. I had also had login problems on Friday which they confirmed was likely the same issue.

Am guessing that VOIP servers like theirs attract spam and so they blacklist incoming IP addresses to try and stop it?
